Okay. As I said in the open, I want to talk briefly about this Savannah Guthrie situation. Her mother, what was it, about nine or 10 days ago, maybe a week ago, her mother was kidnapped, and ever since then we have seen Savannah Guthrie, who is a host on the NBC Morning Show, and very popular, a very well-respected journalist.
And her mother gets kidnapped and we’ve been following along with Savannah, going on her Instagram story, reading letters about any help you can get. We appreciate, and again, I’m not diving into the weeds of what your conspiracy theories are. I don’t care. I haven’t followed this story enough outside of what we’re seeing Savannah give us and then reading the stories.
That the news sites are reporting about, Hey, she has received a ransom letter and the ransom letter at the time of this recording was asking on February 9th, they wanted $6 million in Bitcoin. That was yesterday. As far as I know, that wasn’t given to these people, but these people also haven’t produced proof of life of her mother as, at least according to the news sites, like she doesn’t even know if her mother’s alive, but they’re in some sort of.
Ransom note negotiation. So I’m just going off what they’re telling us. And here’s my thing about all this. I don’t remember anything like this ever happening outside of a TV show or a movie. I mean, we see stuff, kidnappings and ransom notes. I mean, it happened on 24 all the time. It happened in the movie Ransom with Mel Gibson, where he screams, gimme Back my son.
Taken is kind of a what? This is like kidnappings happen all the time in movies and TV shows. I mean, we grew up on this stuff. What’s strange about this story to me is I, it’s just bringing up, has this ever happened in real life? Well, lemme take that back. Of course it’s happened in real life. There’s a lot of kidnappings that happen.
I’m talking about somebody who is known to the public. Who had a family member or close friend kidnapped, and they are coming out publicly and asking for forgiveness, or not asking for forgiveness, asking for help in any way. We’ve seen people gone missing and maybe people thought they were kidnapped, but this has been from the very beginning, been reported as a kidnap.
Again, I don’t want to hear your conspiracy theories that the sister or the brother-in-law has murdered her mom. I don’t know, and I don’t, that’s not it. That’s not what I’m talking about here. I am just saying I’ve been on this planet 50 years. I don’t remember anything like this ever happening outside of a TV show or a movie because, and then here’s my question.
’cause I don’t know how kidnapping negotiations go other than what I see on 24 and stuff like that. So here’s my question. Even though they haven’t shown proof of life apparently, so she doesn’t even know if her mother’s alive, let’s just say there is. Somehow found out investigators find out that her mother is alive.
Do they do it like the movies and TV show? Are they going to negotiate? Hey, we will pay you what you want. She just wants her mother back. Because if you do that and you give them the money, isn’t the whole point is these people literally kidnap somebody that’s crime. They need to be caught. Savannah just cares about getting her mother back.
But there’s also probably a part of her that says, I want those people to suffer for what they did if she gets her mother back. How does this work if they, I mean, I, I don’t mean, I mean I, I’m not laughing at the situation. I’m just saying like, are we talking about if these ransom people, like right now the reports that we’ve gotten with these ransom notes is they want money in bitcoin.
They want money transferred that way. I don’t understand cryptocurrency, so I’m not even gonna pretend to ex spend any knowledge on this. What if they were asking for cash? Is it gonna be like, drop it off at this location? And then the investigators have the whole per perimeter surrounded and they’ve got surveillance.
Like Savannah wants her mother back, of course, but. In every situation we’ve ever seen, when this plays out on tv, in the movies, that’s not the way it goes. The perpetrators, the kidnappers end up getting caught. You know, I, I, I don’t know. I don’t really have any, it’s this just such a weird story. I’ve just never really seen anything like this in real life.
I’ve watched so much TV in movies over the year. I feel like we’ve seen a kidnapping in a TV or movie so many times. It’s like, well, I wonder if that would really happen if somebody, and it happens all the time, I’m sure, but I’ve never seen coverage like this. And again, I don’t want to hear your opinion on why is this being covered by the media.
I don’t wanna hear any of that. All I’m talking about is how does this go down based on what they have told us so far. She has said they’ve demanded money. She’s released a couple videos saying she wants her mother back. Please return her safely. I just have no idea how this thing is going to end up if her mother is still alive, which I hope she is.
How does she get returned? It’s, it’s a wild story. Now I have heard stuff like this happens a lot. With professional athletes, especially professional athletes that come from poverty or come from very little money and now have signed big contracts in the sports leagues, whether they’re NFL players or major league baseball players.
I’ve heard this happens a lot in Dominican Republic, URA sa, didn’t it happen to Big Poppy? Didn’t big Poppy get shot because people were demanding money or else they were gonna do something to his family down in the Dominican Republic? Like, yeah, it’s scary. Because if you have family down there, people in Dominican Republic know, oh my God, that’s your son.
That’s your, that’s your grandson playing in Major League baseball. Okay. And we’ve heard it happen to sports athletes. I’ve just never seen it where it’s something like this. We usually hear about after the fact and we hear, we never hear about who was kidnapped. I mean, this is somebody that we have seen on TV for years, and her 84-year-old mother has gone missing and been kidnapped.
And I’m just like, well, how? How is this going to end? Hoping that she’s still alive? How does the exchange happen? Once the exchange does happen and she gets her mother back, these kidnappers have to know they have no chance if they deliver somebody, they have to like be there. I don’t think they’re gonna throw her mother out into the street and say, Hey, walk two miles and go meet them at this stoplight.
Because I heard the mother needs a medication. Like I, there’s so many questions surrounding this, but I’m just going off what they tell us. I’ve just never seen a kidnapping negotiation play out like this in the media. Absolutely crazy. It’s podcast brought to you by Ollie. It’s officially the Month of Love, right?
