-For one, it just kinda reeks of desperation. I know she’s given him faint hope that she’s not there…yet. And he’s fulling taking that as, “Well, she will be if we give it time.” And ultimately we know she did at least get to some place where she saw herself with him considering where they are now. So maybe I’m in the wrong and his tactics worked since he’s with her, but again, we still only have one Bachelor in 23 seasons who married the final woman he chose. I don’t see Colton and Cassie being couple #2. Not by a long shot. She’s not ready to get married now, and especially not to him. She likes the guy, she’ll date him, they’ll do the media circus once this is over, he’ll workout and be BFF’s with Cassie’s boyfriend, he’ll try and capitalize on whatever he can post-show since that was his goal in all this from the beginning, but ultimately these two aren’t getting married, so I don’t find myself invested in them whatsoever. If they last 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, or a year, does it even matter? No matter what we see next week, I’m sure I’m not the only one who will be a skeptic when I look at their relationship, because I’m guessing a lot of people will have the same sentiment: He’s into her way more than she’s into him. And it’s only a matter of time before that catches up to them. We’ll see.
-Another question coming up a lot is will there be an engagement on the live “After the Final Rose?” Another tough question to answer since I don’t know much about their relationship right now other than they’re together. But after seeing everything we’ve seen this season, and knowing Cassie is 24 and going for a graduate degree, it’d surprise me if just 3 ½ months after she had a freak out about being engaged, not to mention parents who weren’t completely on board with it all, that all the sudden now everyone has done a 180 and come around on things and that’s where their relationship is at. I just don’t see it. Crazier things have happened I guess. I mean, Arie proposed to Lauren basically 6 weeks later after dumping Becca and asking her back. But I really don’t expect them to be getting engaged on the ATFR next week. Just still seems too quick, I don’t care how much time they’ve spent together post-show. I got the impression Lauren wanted to be married sooner rather than later and it worked out for her. I don’t get that impression from Cassie.
-Obviously the biggest storyline all season was the fence jump that was teased to no end, which we finally got last night. Again, Colton AND Chris Harrison both said in pre-season interviews the fence jump was a game changer and happened during the overnight dates, so why people all season kept waiting for it to happen is beyond me. If they’d never addressed it? Fine. Then I guess you could ask every week. But they did. A couple times. Which is why I didn’t get the hype. I mean, it was funny to actually watch once it did happen. My dog Luka didn’t think much of it though:

Yeah, that’s pretty much where she’s at most of the time when I’m watching TV. Just squeezed in next to me between my leg and the arm rest. I feel she’s a little bored by Colton and the fence jump did nothing for her. Oh well. Unless it’s a treat or one of her toys, I had a feeling that’d be her reaction.
-I think the funniest part of the fence jump was that all season in the promos when they showed it 582 times, you always heard this primal scream in the background of someone going “Oh my God!” like they were witnessing a murder. Of course, that never happened last night when he actually did jump the fence, so once again, the previews show you something that never happened. Look, I’m not saying the fence jump was staged because it’s impossible to prove. Colton and the show would never admit it was, so I would never say for certainty “Oh, I know that wasn’t real.” But is there a part of me that thinks Colton did that for a dramatic effect? Sure. Like dude, you’re on a TV show. Where’d you think you were going? Just calling an Uber in Portugal and leaving? Obviously. Could he have been pissed at what Cassie did, told producers to shut off the cameras and he needed some time alone? Yes. I just know why Colton did this show in the first place because he told producers he would do whatever they wanted him to. So when I see a fence jump promoted from Day 1 of the season, and talked about incessantly for the last 9 weeks, of course naturally I’m going to think that he was overly dramatic in that moment and gave them what they wanted. The whole thing was kinda hokey. And the more the show literally built the whole season around that moment, yeah, I began to question it.
-When you do this for as long as I have, and you hear so many things behind the scenes of what makes this train stay on the tracks, you basically question a lot of things. And it’s impossible to take much on this show seriously. Nothing happens organically. So this concept of “Colton went rogue. He really was upset and lashed out at producers and that’s why he jumped the fence” all just seems kinda silly to me. They know what makes good television. They’ve been doing this for 37 seasons. And it seems like in recent seasons, every single one we’re starting to see something we’ve never seen before. It’s like they gotta do something every season now to have a “moment” that tops something they did previously. Maybe this was it. Or maybe next week’s ending is it. I don’t know. What I do know is there is a production team on this show that’s very good at their jobs, that convene at the beginning of every season to map out a storyline and a theme for the season. We were beat over the head with Colton’s theme of being afraid of falling for someone who wouldn’t fall for him. And that’s exactly what happened. All very convenient to me.
“Women Tell All” tonight. I’ll have a brief recap up tomorrow along with “Reader Emails.” Get those in today because right now, we’re pretty low. I’m sure you all have some thoughts on what you saw last night. Lets hear em’ (well, except for the “I hate Hannah B, I’m not watching next season” takes. No one cares you’re not watching, sorry).
