-It’s been two years since we’ve seen this show and for a first episode, not a whole hell of a lot happened. However, I’d say the biggest change to come from last night in terms of past seasons was the new “host” David Spade. Now here’s the thing – I grew up on Spade. His “Weekend Update” bit on the “Hollywood Minute” was cutting edge back in the day. I’ve always liked his sense of humor. Is it for everyone? Of course not. Comedy is subjective. I’m sure there’s a comedian out there that you like that I probably think isn’t the least bit funny. That’s just the way it goes. But for his role, on THIS particular show, I think it’s perfect. The one thing that sets BIP apart from the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” is it doesn’t take itself seriously. It makes fun of itself – like it should. And Spade is basically making fun of the show and it’s contestants while he’s hosting. That’s what this show should be. While just as many relationships/marriages/kids have come from this summer show as from the main one, it’s still much more light hearted and fun. You don’t bring Spade on to host and have him play it straight laced. I thought he was perfect for the role last night and it’s a great use of him. I hope they bring him back every season for this.
-For those unfamiliar with the schedule, BIP started filming like June 5th or 6th, and Katie’s premiere episode was on June 7th. So none of the people on BIP had seen ANY of Katie’s guys on screen before they met them down on the beach. That’s why almost all of them had to introduce themselves to others, like Connor saying, “I’m Connor B from Katie’s season.” The only thing others knew about them at that point was the pictures they’d seen on ABC’s website from their cast photo and bio. And, of course, any spoilers they may have read. So keep that in mind as you’re watching this season. They don’t know about Aaron’s temper, or Connor’s bad kissing or guitar playing, or Karl’s antics, or Thomas’ backstory. Nothing other than what Katie’s other guys probably said about them once they got there. “Oh there’s Karl, he was a shit stirrer on our season” and what not.
-No surprise whatsoever that Abigail was the first woman on the beach. The show loves her for obvious reasons, so, they made it a point to have her show up first and be star struck and happy to be there. Surprised Joe was second one in, but knowing how much they love him as well, maybe I shouldn’t be. Look, I don’t buy the whole “Awww shucks golly gee willikers” routine from him anymore. He’s been through this, he knows what to expect, he knew damn well Kendall would be showing up at some point, so it’s tough to buy what he’s selling. The guy hosts one of the main podcasts from this show with Natasha and Tayshia. So clearly all this was discussed before going down there. He knew what he had to say to build the storyline around Kendall eventually going down there. It’s whatever.
-Tahzjuan is a gem. Like last time she was on, she barely got camera time and never got a rose. This time it’s like she narrated the damn episode last night, which was classic. Too bad she doesn’t last long. What I was told and what’s in the spoilers is that she eliminates herself. However, I don’t know if it’s before the first rose ceremony even happens, or after. I’ll see if I can find out when. If it’s after the first rose ceremony, then her self elimination happens before the second rose ceremony, because I know she doesn’t receive a rose at that one.
-Can we stop with black box Kenny? Do you honestly think that guy walked onto a beach in front of 22 other people butt naked with his dick out the whole time? Of course not. That’s a sexual harassment lawsuit just waiting to happen. Not to mention, uhhhhhh, if he had nothing on exactly where would they attach his mic pack to? So dumb. Like this show needs any more shit being thrown their way in regards to women feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. I’m not stupid enough to believe you’d have a guy openly walking around in his birthday suit talking to women. Didn’t happen and if you looked close enough on certain angles, you could see he was wearing something. Looked like a speedo.
-First date card went to, shocker of all shockers, Abigail and she chose Noah. I don’t know about every couple post show because I haven’t been following or asking around yet. I do know the three engaged couples are still engaged. Brendan and Pieper are still together. Noah and Abigail definitely broke up on the show and didn’t leave as a couple, but I haven’t heard either way if they’ve rekindled or not post show. I’m sure a lot of people are cheering for them after last night, but, if they’re not, trust me you’ll live. If they’re together now, great. If not, great. I don’t think it matters either way, but I guess that’s just me.
