The Bachelor 28 - Joey

One of the biggest things about last nights episode was the return of the 3 of the Golden Bachelor women – Susan, Sandra, and Leslie – to speak to the final 3 women. However, if you weren’t following along on Twitter, this is what you need to know:

Now, some people questioned, “Well why did Kelsey know Leslie by name” and “Daisy talked about Sandra like she knew her,” etc. What I’m saying is, when the Golden Bachelor women were arriving to talk to the final 3, neither of Joey’s women had ever seen these women on Gerry’s season. They might’ve been given a heads up by production who they were or what happened on Gerry’s season, but they hadn’t ever watched them on TV because they’ve been off filming. Gerry’s season didn’t start airing until after these women left to go film. But I also know that 99% of the audience doesn’t understand that. They just assume the women knew who Leslie, Sandra, and Susan were. That’s just not the case. Wanted to point that out for those that don’t follow the scheduling of the shows.

As for Leslie, I thought that was a really interesting conversation she had with Kelsey because…why? Here’s Sandra telling Daisy to sex it up with Joey. Susan is telling Rachel to open up and be vulnerable. And Leslie’s advice to Kelsey is, “Hey, don’t get too excited or confident because you might get dumped in the end?” Now, I wanna make it perfectly clear, that Leslie could’ve absolutely been told to give that advice to Kelsey by production. I guess we’ll never truly know. But lets just say she wasn’t. For that moment, in that position, I just don’t think that’s something you need to say to Kelsey. Why? What did that accomplish? All it did was get in her head. Which is why, I think, that was probably productions idea. I know that Leslie went through it with Gerry thinking she was gonna get picked the night before and then 24 hours later he dumped her, but that doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen to Kelsey. Just weird advice to give when she’s a week away from possibly being proposed to. But again, I have a feeling production did that because they felt it’d get the reaction it did from Kelsey, which was doubting if she was gonna be picked.

Which led to Kelsey writing the note telling Joey she needed to talk to him, and we’ll get that at the beginning of next weeks episode. I assume she’s going to essentially tell him, “Look, if it’s not gonna be me in the end, tell me now, or tell me earlier and don’t make me show up that day.” Because that’s her biggest concern – getting dumped on the final day. However, we know Joey can’t directly answer her because that would give the show away. So we’ll probably hear him tell her to trust the process, look at how our relationship has grown, etc. But at least now we know our narrative for the rest of the season between these two. Joey is scared that who he chooses won’t choose him back, and Kelsey is scared of not being chosen. Since we know they end up together, obviously that all gets resolved, but that’s what this show always does. Plants seeds of doubts into the viewers minds.

So when we’re watching last night, Rachel’s date went first and nothing about their time, regardless of the spoilers, made you think he was gonna pick her in the end. Especially when we heard what he said to both Kelsey and Daisy. As I’m watching it, with Kelsey having the second overnight date, he tells her he’s falling in love with her. After that you’re thinking, “Well shit, it’s obvious he’s picking her then because he didn’t tell Rachel he’s falling in love with her, but he told Kelsey?” Until we got to Daisy’s date, and Joey tells her the exact same thing, that’s he’s falling in love with her. Now, it’s not as bad as a Ben Higgins who told both Jo Jo and Lauren, “I’m IN love with you,” but still. Did Joey screw up? Do you really need to say that to both of them? It’s always a slippery slope because these women open themselves up to him and tell him how they feel, but as the lead, you’re still on a TV show and you can’t give away who you’re gonna pick. So it’s a tough road to navigate. I probably just wouldn’t have said that to either, but that’s just me. I’d give the ol’ “trust the process” BS, because in that moment, when you’re Kelsey and Daisy hearing that separately from him, I mean, wouldn’t you immediately think you’re getting picked? But Kelsey didn’t know he said that to Daisy, and vice versa. So yeah, it can get messy and confusing. But I guess we’re splitting hairs because “I’m falling in love with you” is different than “I am in love with you.” This show is silly. Someone get me another diabetic snack.

So next week will start with his talk with Kelsey and then move on to either letting Rachel go early or at a rose ceremony. Not sure how it goes other than we know Rachel gets eliminated, and then it’ll play right into the Women Tell All. Which at this point, is just people waiting to see how the whole Maria thing plays out. And when we’re getting our Bachelorette announcement. I’ll keep you posted on anything I hear.
