It finally happened. Took me 2 ½ years but I finally got a new dog. If you didn’t see on social media over the weekend I posted that I adopted a 3 yr old beagle rescue named Luka. Up until a month ago, she was in a dirt pen in a backyard of an Oklahoma breeder. She was found there and brought to a foster mom here in Dallas about a month ago. This wasn’t something spur of the moment. I knew at some point I’d own another dog I just didn’t know when and wasn’t in any rush. I wasn’t putting myself in position for the last 30 months to adopt. Didn’t check online, didn’t go to open adoptions at the local pet store, etc. I just stayed away from it until I thought I was ready. Then about three weeks ago I started to feel like I could do it, so I searched around online for available dogs on local Humane Society websites and came across Luka. Her foster report was fully available online so I could see everything I needed to, and although I hadn’t met her, I knew I didn’t want to meet any others before her. I just sensed that she was the right fit for me so I emailed over and the rest was pretty much history.
Initially when I found her at the end of July online, her paperwork said she wouldn’t be available for adoption until mid to late August. She still needed to get some tests done, but once she did, they’d notify me so I could come take a look at her. She became available for adoption two Saturdays ago, I went to the pet store to meet her, and realized that she was exactly what I was looking for. They did a home visit so she could test out my place last Tuesday, then I got word shortly thereafter I could adopt her this past Saturday. Definitely a lot of fun being around her and outside of a few bathroom accidents in the house and some crating issues, she’s been great. Very affectionate, always wanted to be touched and held and pet, and is very similar to Maddie in a lot of her behaviors. I wish she would learn to pee outside, that’d be nice ha ha. I mean, she was in a dirt pen up until a month ago, so I’m pretty sure she really has no idea quite yet when and where she can go to the bathroom. We’ll get there. Thanks for all the kind words sent on social media. I’ll keep people updated on occasion with videos and pictures of Luka and even mention her in podcasts.

(Episode 4): Ashley joins me as we discuss what the first few days have been like after adopting Luka. Then Sarah from Washington calls in to discuss a horrible assault from her past that’s currently been brought to the forefront again by unforseen circumstances (7:23). It’s really a story you have to listen to to believe and we appreciate Sarah for opening up and sharing this with us. Couldn’t have been easy. Original theme music provided by Kate Bass and the song is titled “Blink.”
Thursday’s podcast guest is Bri Amaranthus from Arie’s season. She was eliminated on night one, however, there was so much more to talk to her about. Why didn’t she do Paradise, what did actually happen with Ben Flajnik, her broadcasting career, and so much more. Bri has always interested me because of her college football coverage and we spend a good amount of time talking about being a woman in a male dominated field. When I can get 90 minutes out of someone who was eliminated on night one and never did another show, then I think it’s a good podcast. Not to mention, both of us towards the end become immersed in our own broadcasting crutches. Ugh. Just thinking about it makes me cringe. Look forward to you guys hearing that podcast come Thursday.
