Podcast #171 – Interview with Ryan Park of the “Bachelorette”

Good times today talking to an old friend. Ryan Park who was on Ashley Hebert’s (Rosenbaum) season of the “Bachelorette” joins me today to talk about his season, his weird edit, why the guys didn’t take to him, and how married life is now living with his wife and two daughters in Hawaii. Before the interview with Ryan begins, I address the rumor that hit the internet last night regarding Clare Crawley being named the “Bachelorette” (hint: this was the first I’d heard of it), and also I was told something yesterday about the end of the season, that if it’s true, I just throw my hands up. I haven’t gotten it confirmed yet, so, I don’t wanna say what it is. But when this thing is all over, I will absolutely share what I was told last night. Because just like everything else I’ve been told this season, it’s either gonna be true, or it isn’t. But either way, I will share it at the end of the season regardless of it ends up being accurate or not. As always, if you’d like to respond to the interview, please use Ryan’s Twitter handle (Ryan_M_Park) in your replies. Thanks again to Ryan for coming on. Great talking to him and going back over his season since he’s only the second guy I’ve had on from Ashley’s season. Ben Flajnik was the other one. Enjoy…

(SPOILERS) I begin by talking about my IG story from last night where my dog Luka is struggling with the doggy ramp I bought her, then I discuss the “Bachelorette” rumor which broke late last night (6:01), and news that I heard yesterday that I’m trying to confirm (9:51). Then I’m joined by Ryan Park from Ashley Hebert’s (now Rosenbaum) season of the “Bachelorette” as he talks about how he was portrayed on the show, the Bentley situation and if any of the guys knew what he was saying, how he was positioning to become the Eco-Bachelor, and his married life post show with wife and two kids in Hawaii (13:55).

Clare Crawley would be an outstanding Bachelorette! Strong, well-spoken, uncompromising, emotionally mature, plus sassy and fun! But not a good fit if a bunch of 20-something men have already been cast. So Clare seems unlikely.
I would hope for Clare as Bachelorette, but only if she had some truly good, believable male suitors in the mix.

I was just about to post the same comment…would LOVE for Clare to be named Bachelorette, but I totally blanked out that RS said that all the guys had been selected. And I looked up her age and she’s 38. I am thrilled about any of the others Steve mentioned: Tia, Tayshia and Kelsey. If I had to choose from those three I’d have to go with Kelsey…seen way enough of both Tia and Tayshia.

Oops! I also wanted t comment on today’s podcast. I really like hearing cast members from years ago describe their experience as it’s SO different than what goes on now. Hearing Ryan’s take was SO damn refreshing! Makes me really yearn for the “good old days” of the Bachelor shows, when people weren’t applying to the show just to boost Instagram followers and sell product- and to hook up with everyone in Bachelor Nation…did they even refer to it as “Bachelor Nation” in those days??

ctrealitygirl – I have been watching since the first shows Alex Michel’s season in 2002 and Trista’s in 2003. I don’t remember anyone using the term Bachelor Nation back then at all. I really think that term started about when social media took over the show. I could be wrong, but…

I really like Tayshia and Tia too. Tayshia is 29 and I fear most of the guys will be too young. Heck Tia is 26 and if they have a bunch of 22 and 23 year olds they’ll be too young. Same thing for Kelsey at 28. I just looked it up and it seems the average age for guys on the bachelorette is 29, so maybe…

I too miss the “good’ole days” of the bachelor/bachelorette. You have to go back more then 10 years to get a show that wasn’t influenced by social media. I must say, I liked that old show much better. It was more authentic and production didn’t seem to be quite as manipulative and mean.

jlal – I very rarely listen to Steve’s podcasts as a) he often has guests I could care less about and b) they’re too darn long! But I loved Ashley Hebert’s season and couldn’t quite remember Ryan, so I though, “What the heck.” He was so articulate and the way he described his season made me pine for those earlier days. One of the things he discussed is how evident the love story between Ashley and JP was toward the end and they all pretty much knew their chances of “winning” were slim. I vividly recall Ashley and JP falling in love…and hey, they’re still happily married with two kids! I so miss having a love story…this year is terrible. Madison is the only one you can see true feelings between the two of them…but after everything that’s gone down, I simply can’t see them lasting, even if Steve is right and he tracks her down

@karla, @ctrealitygirl, YES! Me three. Came here to write the same thing too.

I would be so down for a Clare Bachelorette season. She’s smoking hot, got a great personality, was never edited to be a drama queen… I think her mistake in life is she just falls to hard.

But I’d so watch… otherwise, I’m taking a hard pass on Kelsey (who is just Victoria F with blonde hair), Tia, or Tayshia.

haven’t gone outside the frnachise in a while. I;d be down with it again. Otherwise, Tayshia I guess. OR Sarah Coffin. Pete cut her way too soon.

I too remember Ashley and JP falling in love. Like Sean and Katherine you could see the chemistry between them. Production always manipulated things, but it has just gotten so obvious, mean and over the top it has ruined the show.

Just had a thought. I googled “The Bachelorette” and the first article that popped up was titled “Everything You Need to Know About Bachelor Producer Julie LaPaca.” And suddenly I wondered if they could actually be considering making her the Bachelorette? Why all the hype about her lately? Yes, it’s all in reference to a rumor about her and Peter…but odd that the article doesn’t come up when you google The Bachelor, but is the headliner for news on The Bachelorette. Just food for thought! I also just saw on Steve’s twitter feed that ABC is advertising that they will be announcing the new Bachelorette this Monday morning on GMA. So that rules out anyone of Peter’s final three women. And, to me, it kind of points toward someone NOT in this season seeing as they’re announcing it well before the show’s ending

Great podcast, Steve! I loved hearing what Ryan Park is up to. Ashley’s season was a fave of mine and I always thought Ryan was a great guy- glad to see that is true and that he is happy. I’d love Clare as the bachelorette! It’s time we had another mature lead. I wasn’t crazy about Hannah B’s season- I liked her but felt sorry for her most of the time. I want a fun season! Tayisha or Tia would be fine, but I hope Kelsey isn’t picked- too meh for me. Why not Alaya or Victoria P???

I’ve been out of touch this week with social media and just read the comments, and just like everyone else, I’m sick of the producer manipulation and all the forced and produced drama. I miss the old days when the show wasn’t so fake. I hope that by picking Clare to be the next bachelorette, they are going to try to get back to more of the love connection rather than ridiculous drama. Maybe there’s hope.

I am beyond ecstatic about Clare being named Bachelorette! I always liked her and LOVED how she told off Juan Pablo in the FRC. I don’t think she’ll take any crap from her guys. I just hope the producers are reading all the negative comments us viewers are making about the amount of unnecessary drama they’re manufacturing this season and are noting our displeasure about NOT being shown a love story this season…and leave Clare the hell alone!

I too love Clare, but she is 38. That is a different show. The average age of the guys is 29. If they haven’t cast it yet, it will be a midlife Bachelorette show. Or rather a cougar Bachelorette show. That fine, just a different show.

Don’t even tell me he ends it with Hannah Ann & Madie and goes back to Victoria F.!

jlal…RS posted on Twitter that they released all the younger guys they had cast and are now casting for some older guys.
jsab7…what makes you think he ended up with Victoria F?? I didn’t watch much of the WTA last night…too much cat fighting. But I did se an online interview this morning that peter did with Lauren Zima after that taping and they were both talking about what a changed person she seemed at the WTA…that would be really shocking!
