A very informative and information filled podcast today by one of the most smart and outspoken voice in Bachelor Nation, Taylor Nolan. You’ve been seeing Taylor be one of the most vocal defenders of BIPOC contestants in this franchise for a while now, and with everything going on recently in Bachelor Nation, Taylor has been front and center about how she feels about the handling of things within the franchise, and yeah, she’s gonna ruffle some feathers. And I’m sure some are already rolling your eyes. You shouldn’t be. Taylor has a lot of great points as to why stuff like this is not acceptable, why certain people should be held accountable, and why things need to change in this franchise. It’s a very open and honest discussion to what we’re seeing behind the scenes right now. Probably will be uncomfortable to hear to a lot of you. But that’s the only way people can begin to bettering themselves and becoming anti-racist. There has to be uncomfortable conversations. As always, if you’d like to respond to the interview, please include her Twitter handle (@taymocha) in your replies. And I can’t believe I have to say this, but it’s clear I do based on some of the responses she gets, but feel free to not name call or insult her in your tweets. Thanks. Great podcast that I hope you take the time to listen to.

(SPOILERS) I begin by discussing tonight’s live with Ashley Spivey and previewing today’s episode. Then Taylor joins me (9:40) to talk about everything going on in the franchise right now, including Chris Harrison’s interview with Rachel Lindsay, does Taylor think he should lose his job altogether, being anti-racist, accountability vs cancel culture, BIPOC contestants’ not feeling comfortable in this franchise and on this show, her exhaustion level dealing with hate online directed at black contestants, her thoughts on Rachael Kirkconnell’s apology, where the franchise goes from here, and we end with an NSFW conversation about her OnlyFans account.

Steve, I really think you mean well and genuinely really care about these issues but in my humble opinion this isn’t the way to go about it. People like Taylor bring further divide with the way she’s speaking. It’s another form of hate disguised as “unity, justice, mad at the problem, fed up”- it’s really disheartening.

Kudos to you both for even listening to the podcast. As soon as I say Taylor’s picture on the post I gagged. I never liked her and agree with sarah26’s perception of her. Why does Steve put so much weight on what these Bachelor Nation has-beens think about these controversial topics? I wish the Bachelor shows could go back to to being just silly guilty pleasure indulgences. I am really getting tired of all the manufactured, and I’ll stop watching if the hatred continues. This is NOT entertainment!

I’m all for Chris getting fired since people lose their jobs or get laid off all the time without rhyme or reason. So Chris absolutely deserves to get canned for his racism and he can cry in his house of money.
With that said, Taylor, will MLK approve of your investigative journalism, language and delivery?
Taylor lost me a bit when her investigative journalism went by “I was told by someone else who was doing press that they heard” ?? Really Steve, how can anyone take her seriously by that LOL
De Mario is now moral compass?? Double seriously.
Taylor is rooting for everyone black but how about other races like the Hispanics? They are getting killed and caged as well possibly more so than blacks since so many of their cases are under-reported or not reported.
Taylor sounds completely unprofessional when she used language like this f**king girl (referring to Racheal) then f**king Hannah Brown and f**king Demi.
Around minute 40 plus, Taylor ready to call Steve racists too for defending Racheal from online trolls humiliating her family with memes.
Around minute 50, I do commend them for calling out Matt for not taking a stronger stand. This was excellent as I found Matt to have really echo everything Chris said to Rachel Lindsay.
I wished Steve and Taylor went deeper to shame Dale for culturally appropriating for Party City or even Becca being engaged to Garrett for so long. Or even Rachel Lindsay for “slipping up” to call the movie Rich Crazy-Asian.
Pretty amazing Taylor is on OnlyFans. Honest living and there is nothing wrong with that.

I listened to the podcast because I wanted to hear what both Steve and Taylor had to say. I also listened to Steve’s IG thing with Ashley S too.
Here’s what I believe. Labelling people and name calling causes more divide not less, and there’s more than one way to crack a nut. There is absolutely nothing wrong with becoming more aware and thus doing research and generally being far more enlightened. However, if you want to try and enlighten anyone else, coming across as hard hitting just backs those people who you want to try and enlighten into a corner. People tune out and switch off. A little subtlety wouldn’t go amiss. Steve’s IG thing lasted for over an hour. It felt like a relentless mantra, 15 minutes would have got their message across succinctly. The podcast with Taylor was no different and Taylor’s pungency for swearing really isn’t okay, it doesn’t make her come across as particularly professional.
The general feeling was, if you didn’t 100% agree on everything they (Steve, Taylor and Ashley) said and discussed, you were considered a racist. That’s not showing tolerance nor understanding to another’s view, I find all extreme stances concerning.
I think the franchise and the key people working within it are all complicit to what goes on. I truly believe they complete ‘all’ the necessary back ground checks on contestants and they deliberately cast certain people, knowing full well it will cause furore etc.
Steve has always said that the franchise will be here for a long time yet….I really wouldn’t be so sure of that anymore.

Oh my gosh!Taylor’s vocal fry is so annoying!!!
She seems so angry too and not just because she’s angry with the topic at hand!
She’s educated so try using a different word than fuc*ing every time you drive a point home.
She made some valid points but her negative and sour energy overshadowed a lot. Steve seems afraid to disagree with Taylor. He’s all like “yes” and so timid here.

Rather perversely, both the bachelor and bachelorette in their rather less than perfect non-politically correct and non politicised form work as a mindless piece of trashy television. I think if it’s completely revamped and becomes stiflingly politically correct etc, it just won’t work.

No room for dialogue or other points of view, no compassion. What she was saying about those kkk memes and how it’s ok and not bullying tells me everything I need to know. Huge double standard- “it’s ok for me but not for thee”. As long as i don’t find it offensive. But I’m offended by people not using their own words, but speak up. Be an ally but don’t do it in your white way. You’re a racist if you don’t agree with everything I’m saying. It’s Taylor’s world we’re just living in it.

Look, I do believe that a lot of what’s coming up should cause us to examine ourselves more. Many of us grew up in largely white environments & never questioned any of it. Trying to put ourselves in the shoes of people who were not white who had to experience that environment & imagine how that looks to them is important. Just because Taylor & RS may not be the ideal people to be the ones to call this to our attention, doesn’t make it OK to simply shoot the messenger and ignore the message. I understand the urge to push back & I understand that Taylor & RS are easy targets for criticism. But rather than push back, maybe take a look in the mirror. I have been doing that since this summer, and even before & it’s uncomfortable. I have to think about the mistakes I’ve made that were offensive in the past…. even though I had no idea at the time. It’s hard to think about. But change happens when we take a long hard look at ourselves. It’s too much for most people. That’s why you see the pushback. Notice that most are not attacking the substance of what they say. They’re attacking the people saying it, or deflecting by calling Taylor a racist “too” (whataboutism), or throwing out the term “politically correct” to discredit the whole conversation, or complaining that it’s hurting the show. That completely misses the point. I think we can do better.
deedadoo
February 20, 2021 at 3:50 PM
If you read the whole thread you’ll see no one is discrediting the conversation or ignoring the message. Quite the contrary.. these are important topics is not something that is in question. I can only speak for myself but we are attacking the substance. The double standards, the sentiment behind it, the division she is creating with her words. I feel super strongly that she is doing more harm than good. Nothing to do with “being uncomfortable” – such a cop out. It has to do with what’s going to be effective on how to bridge the gap. Just because we have the same end goal doesn’t mean we can’t have differing thoughts on how to get there.

@rob22, you shouldn’t assume we are all American commenting, all share the same personal experiences and all share your culture etc. I grew up and lived in a mixed ethnic area, moved around my own country, and went to school and university with many different ethnic minorities. I’ve travelled to many different countries and experienced different cultures. I am also in a minority group myself, so I have some understanding how it feels to be overlooked, judged, dismissed and always feeling I have to work that much harder to be seen and heard to name a few things.
I’ve listened to as many different conversations and discussions as I can since the franchise started having issues with race etc. There are very many more people within the franchise who are far better at voicing the message that needs to be heard than Taylor and Steve can.

Exactly. I grew up in my early years in California and ended up moving to Memphis, tn in fifth grade. I was completely sheltered before I moved. Had never seen racism firsthand until I moved there. What my family and I saw there was appalling. From people dropping the n word, to seeing African American families in the neighborhood Christmas decorations be absolutely demolished. I had people at my school who weren’t even allowed to see save the last dance with me in theaters ( showing my age here)- a movie about a white girl and African American boy falling in love. My high school was mostly all white and one year a family decided to adopt an African American kid into their family and he started going there. They took a stance for racism and I watched those same people who weren’t allowed to see the movie fall in love with this kid and transformed the way they felt. If this sounds familiar that’s because it was depicted in the movie the blindside. I think that’s why i have taken the time to respond and write about this. There’s SO much work to be done. We have a long way to go but the way we go about doing it is EVERYTHING.

this comment thread is so disturbing, i debated answering all of the racist and sexist dog-whistles in here (taylor is “angry”, “annoying” vocal fry, she swears too much / doesn’t say things the right way – all tone policing)…
but i’ll leave it at: Steve, i’ve really enjoyed watching and listening to your personal evolution on these issues over the years…and i hope that you know that even though we might not comment as much, there are people of colour that are grateful for your continued allyship
one last thing for the person who mentioned MLK – you clearly don’t know anything about his message, so stop using his legacy as a prop for your racism…MLK despised the type of “white moderate” exemplified in most of these comments – you’re all for ending racism, but you want people of colour to go about it the “right way” and only as long as you feel comfortable…
in his own words:
“…the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.””

King also enlightened the world with a message to be peaceful, to be patient. MLK had created plenty of tension, healthy discussions and disagreements with his delivery and charisma without swearing and dropping f bombs constantly. I am all for talking about subject matters that will make me feel awkward, uncomfortable, requiring self reflections and examination.
If you read my posts thoroughly, you will be able to tell I agree with Taylor’s anti-racism. In fact, I am for Chris getting fired as that will be the only way he will face his consequences.

@tvtv2, Within the above comments, you appear to have conveniently ignored the individual’s (within the franchise) named who convey the issues of discrimination and racism extremely well. :o/
When it comes to discrimination you need any message of enlightenment to be clear, concise and professional. You want it to be heard and understood by as many as you possibly can. Yes, so tone and content matter a lot. Seriously, why would you want someone using continuous bad language when trying to get an important message across (to name only one thing from Taylor’s discussion)? How is that positive or good ? I most certainly wouldn’t want someone representing my minority group in such a way. I’ve encountered a lot of discrimination in my life, more than you can shake a stick at…if you’re familiar with the phrase/syndrome ‘does she/he take sugar’, then you’ll understand my situation.

After tonight if you can’t see what ABC did? Why did Matt pick 3 girls that were absolutely nowhere the whole season? All have mixed race parents, and clearly he was told to pick these girls. He knew he was into and going to pick Rachel, so was told to pick these girls and that’s BS. Now to the interview with Taylor. She is angry and immature and doesn’t like Chris Harrison, he’s an ass, he’s pompous, and sounds like he’s been that way to many of the cast members. Is Chris racist? I don’t know, but she didn’t say anything other than he was a massive jerk, never had pointed “receipts” about racist remarks, just ones that he was an Ahole. We all knew Chris was this way, always, but Taylor’s interview was basically done after she used the term “micro aggressions” and knew exactly where this interview was headed. Did this show take forever to get around to having a black lead? Absolutely. Did less people watch when Rachel Lindsey was the lead? Don’t think so, and now look how well she is doing, so let’s can “this racist country” theme. She has benefited so much from this show, more than most, and again, American watched just as much with a black woman lead as the rest of the seasons. Taylor seems angry she never made it as far as others and is taking all her anger out on America and the show, which clearly is and could be a show with some racism? The thing is we have all had it with is racism dominating every single thing we watch, listen to, whatever, it comes back to racism. A teenager attended a Kappa Alpha fraternity formal, she made a mistake as a kid, and that southern fraternity is everywhere and was prominent when I was at FSU with southern guys who like to fish, hunt, camp, whatever. My best friend, best, from the Marines laughs at BLM and me, because I am white and still paying for my B.A. and his Master’s degree was ? percent paid for, he thinks that that “white privilege” is a joke and uses me, his best friend as an example. All he did was fill out a FASFA and get all the student aid, none to be paid back, and has a strong opinion about BLM. He straight tells people to “take off that ridiculous pin. I am not some endangered bird or species, I’m a human, take the pin off.” Does it go without saying a human life matters he says? Why don’t we wait for Matt and Rachel to talk, the man who chooses the 24 year old “white supremacist”. She doesn’t need to now need to start therapy. You must be kidding me, she attended a formal in college as a kid, now it shouldn’t happen, I think those fraternities are gone, and understandably, but all she needs to do is apologize and explain, done, and if Matt is ok I think we should let that man judge her, not the public. This just proves that like my best friend says, all we are doing with this garbage is setting the country farther back with race issues by continuing to exploit them, and like he says, there are just as many racists as there was in 1993 as there are now, this all started with a narrative when Trump became President. Again, this was a show that chose white people only for years, decades, that’s on them. How does anyone defend Taylor saying that it’s ok for memes etc with Rachel’s family in KKK hoods? Steve you didn’t push back on that one bit? How does that help what Taylor said? You’re show and podcast are awesome but that interview was the worst ever. Let’s end this garbage and move on as ALL human freaking beings. By the way, the “24 year old white supremacist” as the media nerds and Twitter trolls call her, sure looks like she likes the black Bachelor and her father sure doesn’t look white to me. Keep up the great work, but please with Taylor Nolan.

The worse and saddest thing is that Taylor’s anger, lack of compassion and humility hasn’t changed one bit. Whereas it was directed at just about any other group she saw fit to horrendously insult, she now directs that to only (?) Caucasian’s in the same venomous and angry way. This I feel is innate, her inner core. She has shown us who she really is, because I just don’t think you acquire genuine compassion and humility, it’s something you just are and have…..or not.

And if you’ve been confused Steve as to why we had such a problem hopefully this clears it up. It comes from a place of hate, something she’s obviously had in her heart for a long time. Her apology is a whole lot of deflections and blaming her environment and people and society, in general. Then the later half is being angry at people for uncovering her tweet at this timing.
Are there any examples of Taylor showing support of Indian, Asian and Jewish people or the LGBTQ?
If she does support, why did she just recently tweet supporting only Black women to win or something along these lines for Bachelor Nation?
Sounds like she has a lot more work to be done even after 10 years
