I was waiting this morning to see if you would say anything about the first scene of the premier last night but you didn’t so I wanted to reach out. It is obvious it is his final rose ceremony as the long stem rose is on the podium rather than the boutonniere that the Bachelorette’s use for their final choice. It is also pretty obvious from your spoilers that this scene is him letting Kelsey go as I am confident in your reporting of Daisy being his final choice. I think last night was the first premier we have actually seen a clip of the final rose ceremony of a season. I know they are trying to trick us into thinking he was rejected by his final pick, but I was still interested in your thoughts on that scene none the less! Thanks again for all your reporting and commentary.
Comment: Well yeah it’s his final rose ceremony. I didn’t realize that was in doubt? He’s standing at an altar and there’s only one rose left and that’s clearly the beaches of Tulum, Mexico. But spoiled vs unspoiled people view that scene very differently. But seemingly, yes, that clip was to make people think the woman he chose dumped him in the end and drove away in a white van. We know he’s engaged, so, that’s not it.

Comment: Ahhhh yes. I discussed this on the podcast today. How great does she look for 50? One of the all-time greatest TV “teen” characters ever. Valerine Malone will live on forever and ever. And yes, I did see JLH comment on her post too. It’s like my exes became BFF’s ha ha.

(1) Why did they have to blur out the Canadian flag that Maria gave Joey during her limo entrance? I know TV shows have to blur BRANDS (like if someone has on a Nike hat), but why the Canadian flag? According to an article on TVLine.com, the “Canadian flag is “protected…against unauthorized use for commercial purposes,” and any such use has to first be submitted to the Canadian gov’t and then approved. Uhhhhh, ok. The girl from BIP had the Canadian flag on her bikini bottom in the intro all season. So I don’t get it.
(2) in the contestant’s contract, does it state that producers can flat out LIE to them? Like could a producer say “if you bring out this plate of bananas and ask Joey which one he is, I promise you’ll get a rose tonight” (Even if the producer knows that’s not going to happen)? Because if it’s not in the contract, couldn’t the contestant sue for breach of a verbal contract especially if their part of the bargain was to do something embarrassing (not that a contestant WOULD ever sue the show for that, I’m just wondering if there would be any repercussions if a producer flat out lied—not just “hinted” or “encouraged”—to someone to get them to do something)
Comment: Does it say “lie” in that wording? No. But it’s just as bad.

Do they FILM an intro video for every contestant but then just choose which ones to air night 1 once they see how the season plays out? Or do they only film girls who they think have an actual chance with the lead and/or could stand out in another way (villain, fan-favorite, BIP material)? Because if they only choose to film intro packages of SOME contestants before the season, then if you are a contestant and they don’t come to film a package for you, can’t you assume that you’re just a “filler” girl who stands no chance?
Comment: Like for all 32 women? No. They pick and choose who they want to film an intro for. Usually they have a pretty good idea how long people are lasting. And then once the season is over, depending on whatever narrative they want to push across will determine who gets theirs shown and who doesn’t.

Why oh why don’t the producers make it a requirement that every contestant get some time with the lead on Night #1? It’s so unfair to these women who have disrupted their lives, travelled, got all glammed up and stayed up all night long for the first night of filming to not get any camera time! They sent 10 home last night on night 1 and half of those weren’t even acknowledged on camera! So rude! You’d think, but, it happens every season and it’s all because they’re making a TV show, not appealing to everybody’s feelings and making sure everything is fair.
When the bachelorette makes her final choice why doesn’t SHE propose? It’s been her call all the way through and then at the end she gets all Cinderella ish and has to wait to be proposed to? Why isn’t she down on one knee proposing to him-it’s been her journey after all!!!
Comment: Maybe one day it will, but this show is pretty structured in how they want their proposals to go. I just don’t see them going that route.

I noticed that the season recap for Joey’s season is really trying to convince us that he ends up alone.
I also noticed that Daisy was pretty much absent from the season recap.
Any thoughts as to why?
Comment: Again, they’re making a TV show and their teasers are appealing to the non-spoiled people. They aren’t making promos for those who are spoiled. And Daisy was definitely in the season preview, you just needed to pause it or slow it down a few times to see her.
