Podcast #391 – Interview with Kristen Baldwin, TV Critic for EW.com (And Transcript)

All right. So let’s talk about something that we spoke about last podcast. I had you, I had you on, I can’t remember when it was, but it was before the, before I guess the spring season of television shows started. And I remember I had you on last time and it was before this show premiered. And I’m like, Kristen, what the hell is deal or no deal Island?

What the, what is this? I was reading the show description and we were both kind of chuckling at it. Like, Oh God. Little did we know that this would be a huge success for NBC. Season two has been greenlit. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was so much better than the original. I knew that the banker was going to be Howie when they, when they finally showed us who the banker was.

I knew it, but finale aired this past Monday. I thought it was a really, really good show. I do think it helped that you had. A Boston Rob on that show. I don’t know if it would have worked with 12 or however they started with 14, 16 random strangers. I do think it was good that you kept Boston Rob on there and not that you kept the, not that they rigged it for him, even though some people did.

But he, he made it to where it was like, okay, you, you had somebody that you were either rooting for or. Hugely rooting against of like, no, I don’t want Rob to get another opportunity to win a shit ton of money. But this really, I think if NBC is being honest with themselves, I think NBC has to admit that they struck gold with this one because

they

are fired up for season two, for sure.

Yeah. And it’s, It’s really interesting because it sounds crazy, but I think it was enough of an evolution of this idea of deal or no deal and, you know, merging it with something that just felt a little less static because, you know, there was suspense in deal or no deal, but it’s all in a studio. You know, it just feels a little old fashioned, you know, and some, some of those game shows are fine, you know, certainly ABC has Press Your Luck, and you know, the networks are doing primetime game shows again, but this one feels a little, you know, more lively and just sort of inventive.

So I like the idea of melding the two, you know, sort of the survivor with the deal or no deal. Plus, like you said, having preexisting, like people that contestants that people knew and liked or like to hate. I think that’s, that was a real key. And I know, you know, certainly It got the Survivor fans, you know, Dalton Ross, our, our chief Survivor correspondent is big into it.

And, you know, I think our audience that responds a lot to Survivor is really liking it and, you know, reading about it. And so it was, it was smart and it, you know, it’s hard to come up with a brand new reality TV concept as we know. So when. When there’s something that feels new enough, but is also familiar enough that, that people, people want, it doesn’t feel like a ripoff.

It feels there’s, there’s never been a, you know, deal or no deal island type show before. But it has the, it has the strength of being just weird enough. And just different enough to, to pull people in. Yeah. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they just start cranking these out.

Yeah. And I wonder now the next thing will be season two.

They haven’t started filming season two yet, but you wonder, do you change up the contestant base where maybe you get more familiar names in the reality TV space and it’s not just two. Cause the only two they brought on were robust and Rob and Claudia Jordan, who, you know, was a formerly of the apprentice.

She was formerly one of the case girls on, on, on dealer, no deal. A long time ago. Those are the only two I, you know, you wonder, do you bring in more? Do you keep it the same way? We’re only going to have a couple of them. I, you know, I don’t know, but they I think Joe, man. Man, I, how do you pronounce his last name?

Man. Man. Anello. Man. Jello.

I’ve always just said mangi, which I know, man, which is probably wrong. . No, I think that,

I think that’s, I think that’s right. I think it’s Mano, but it’s spelled kind of weirdly. Yeah. Yeah. But he was, I mean, he was, he was really good, I thought as the host and. Yeah, the concept was, you know, I watched the finale on Monday night and to me, I guess I didn’t know enough about the woman who got to the end who played for the money.

But this was, I mean, for those that didn’t watch the original show or even watch this one. When you have the original show on, you know, you’re just taking, there was never any reality shows. I don’t, maybe they did a celebrity week or something like that and they were playing for charity. But for the most part, these were just average people.

They always had some sort of tragic story. These weren’t people that were making mid six figures a year that were playing no deal. So then it’s just, it, it, it. It really tapped into somewhat of the greed of the American person, because if you’re making 75, 000 a year and the banker offers you a deal or no deal of one 50, and you’re like, no, but I want that million.

I see that million up there. It’s just like, you’re losing all perspective. Now, this girl that made it to the finale on Monday night. There were 22 cases in the finale. So 11 on each side, she chooses one. And the, the main case that they had played for all year, you built up the bank case every year. And that was the one confusing thing about the show is it kind of went away from the original because when you’re playing, you’re playing to just build up a case that you might not even be playing for at the end of the year anyway.

So it’s, it’s kind of weird in that aspect, but there was a, There was a case on the board for 13 million and, you know, she played and she’s eliminating cases and all of a sudden Howie says your offer is 1. 197 million, the largest offer in deal or no deal history. Right. And this woman says, no, are you crazy?

Now the very next time, and so she says, no, she says, no deal. She keeps playing. And the very next case she chooses the 13 million goes off the board, but she still had like a four and a half million and a five and a half million up there. And Howie’s next offer was 1.237 million. And she’s like, deal. And she took it.

So she walks with 1.237, but that was only $30,000 more than what she just turned down. And I’m like, okay, the, at least I, I’m glad because the case she chose ended up only being a thousand dollars. She probably would’ve been vomiting all over herself if she ended up saying like, oh no, , I’m confident in the case that I chose.

And she ends up with a thousand, which. I don’t know. That’s what’s fascinating about the show because it’s strict math. I mean, you’re just going to pick if there’s 22 cases on the board and you have to just keep picking cases for the most part. You’re going to pick cases from both sides, the big guy, the big money ones and the smaller ones.

You’re never going to just wipe out the whole left side. It’s just never going to happen. Odds are just so far against you from doing that. So I don’t know. I, I, I, but I, but I enjoyed it and I’m glad that she got her 1. 2 million. She was, her whole story all season was she was struggling having a child and then we find out they, you know, fast forward to four months later and we find out that she is pregnant with her first child.

So,

yeah,

yeah. That’s,

I mean, you couldn’t script it better. Yeah, exactly. But I do think, I mean, the human nature of, you know, bird in the hand versus two in the bush, you know, and just not being able, you know, that’s what drives press your luck as well. And, but, but it’s just fascinating because you really do, you get, Invested in people and it’s, you know, you think just take the money, take the money, but it’s, it’s hard to know how you would actually react in that moment if you were the one, you know, facing that choice.

So, but I agree. I’m glad she, I’m glad she did walk away with a decent amount rather than like, you know, That would have been a real bummer.

Yeah. Especially on the first season. It’s almost like, I don’t want to say that they fixed it, but you would hate to see the first season and you, and you invest a 10, 11, 12 episodes, however many it was into this show to watch somebody just face plant and walk away with, you know, a thousand dollars.

Yeah. I guess that is the possible flaw in this you know, in this idea, because, you know, Presuming that they are not breaking any, any rules slash laws by fixing this, this game. You know, they are going to run the risk that somebody could face plant in the finale, but at least it didn’t happen this time.

Yeah,

she didn’t. And I, I’m really curious to see about casting for next season. Yeah. I actually got fooled by. Warner brothers upfronts yet today on my podcast because Warner brothers brought out Alan Cumming to promote season three of traders. And apparently they did this whole bit in this whole skit with a bunch of big names and there were reports circling on the internet, believe it or not, I actually fell for the misinformation campaign on the internet that I thought all these people were on season three.

Of traders, which was Holly Robinson, Pete and Rodney, Pete, Joe Mangiello Howie Mandel. And then I was like, wait a second. People were bringing it up to me. Like Steve, I think that they were just there for. Right. Warner Brothers discoveries up front. They’re not the season three cast. I Paris and Nicole they were there, but they’re promoting, I guess their new show because they’re coming back and doing, I don’t know like a reboot of simple life or something.

Something like that. You know, we don’t fully know yet, but yeah, that would have been.

I thought this was the cast of season three of traitors. I’m like, this is the greatest reality show cast I’ve ever seen,

but

no, not quite.

Well, hopefully they have plenty of networks to choose from since, you know, NBC universal.

And they also don’t just have to stick to that to that conglomerate for their, for their contestants, but it’ll be, I know I’m excited to know who the. The new cast will be, and you know, when we can expect it. You, you said you saw Fox’s upfronts, right? Most of it. Yeah. I had to tune out some of it.

Yes.

Did they announce, did they announce special forces season three, or is that a spring show and that wouldn’t be, that’s not coming in the fall.

That is, let me just look real quick. Cause I know that they

I don’t

know if I’ll just talk over while you’re looking, I just, I’m trying to remember, I thought the first two seasons actually did air after the new year, like January ish and they fall,

it’s special forces world’s toughest test is Thursday at nine.

Oh, so, so it is going to be come probably September, they are going to, yeah, they

haven’t given any actual premiere dates yet, but

so it says, so I think this is going to be the first time it’s been a fall show.

Cause I, I think the first two seasons were after the mid season or, yeah,

I think so as well. They also have a show speaking of speaking of, you know, sort of. IP. They have a show called rescue high surf, which is literally just like Baywatch. Well, it’s like Baywatch colon nine, one, one. So it’s a bunch of, you know, hot lifeguards in Hawaii at, on, you know, the world’s most dangerous beach and they’re all attractive.

You know, diverse lifeguards saving people from the water. I don’t know. It looks terrible and I will probably watch every episode.

And this is a scripted show. This isn’t some reality. Correct.

Correct. This is a new show. High surf HI, like Hawaii high surf. And yeah, it just looks like, you know, so I’m sure it’ll just be the rescue of the week.

Plus, you know, the interpersonal lives of these attractive lifeguards and the paramedics who help them and, you know, sign me up. Yeah,

as long as the Hoff and Pamela get to make an appearance here and there, let’s just throw them in there for one episode or come

on, let them, let them relive their glory days.

I know. But yeah, that’s, that’s interesting. Well, speaking of the new shows, I wanted to ask you of the upfronts that you saw this week. That are ongoing. What shows have jumped out to you? I, like you said, they’ve only shown trailers or anything, but does anything jump out to you as something that you might be interested in other than the Hawaii surf people?

Very into high surf on Fox. That’ll be,

I thought it was Hawaii

high surf. Yeah, it basically it is. Unfortunately, they haven’t shown full trailers for very much. There were a couple teasers. There’s a show on, two ABC shows. One is called High Priority, which is a, sort of a dramedy, and it stars Caitlin Olsen.

She’s like a cleaning lady, who has a very high IQ, and she helps people. The cops solve crimes. Sounds very sort of silly. It’s based on a French show, but she’s great. I think she’s so fun on Hacks, and obviously people love her from It’s Always Sunny. So, I think, you know, that looks interesting. There is no footage of this yet, but it is coming out.

It has sold me just on the cast alone and the name, which is so stupid. Dr. Odyssey.

It

stars Joshua Jackson as like a cruise ship boat, a cruise ship doctor. And I love him so much. And I believe it’s from Ryan Murphy. So, you know, there’s going to be some ridiculous stuff in it. And Don Johnson. Is in it as well.

So if it’s like loveboat colon 9 1 1, I’ll be fine with that. I would watch it. You know, I think St. Denis medical we haven’t seen anything. Any footage from that, but that’s wendy mclendon covey and david allen greer like a mockumentary at a at a hospital the other one that kind of interest.

Even though, you know, we don’t really have any footage, they’re doing a Matlock reboot with Kathy Bates. So she’s like, you know, she’s taken down the corrupt of the world as, you know, sort of a savvy Southern old lady lawyer. I’m a hundred percent there. So, you know, that sounds kind of fun and maybe they can, revive that brand or that, that show that IP, you know, if they’re going to try like, why not Kathy Bates?

She’s great. So, you know, those are the ones from what I’ve seen so far, that kind of sound interesting to me, but you just never know. We haven’t seen much footage of anything, but. Just from a concept alone you know, like I know just from the title and the star of Dr. Odyssey, I’m going to watch it because I’m at least going to try because I want, I want Joshua Jackson to succeed in all he does.

I love him.

Well, there’s one show that I started watching this year, probably the only new show that I started watching this year. And you know, as funny that I made fun of CBS earlier because I’m not in their demo yet. I started watching tracker this season and really liked it because I just like you have a soft spot for.

Joshua Jackson, I’ve always had kind of a man crushed on Justin Hartley going back to his days on Smallville. And, and then he, and then he shows up on, this is us. And I swear that guy hasn’t aged since Smallville. Like he looks exactly the same.

Was he on Passions or Sunset Beach?

One of those two. Yeah, he was on one of those.

But he, I mean, Smallville aired for 10 seasons. He played the Green Arrow for probably maybe five or six of those seasons. I swear, he looks exactly the same in the last 15 years. He does not age and he’s in incredible shape. They try and throw in a proverbial shirtless shot of him every episode for no reason whatsoever.

I really like the show. They’re, you know, they’re, they’re great. I don’t want to say they’re doing stunt casting, but they put his new wife, you know, he used to be married to Chris shell, not anymore. And now he put, they put his new wife I can’t remember her name, but she’s in one of the episodes.

And then they made his brother, Jensen Ackles from the supernatural franchise. And, you know, it just, it’s one of those shows that, you know, by the end of the episode, it’s getting solved, you know, and I’ve never been, I’ve never been somebody that liked those shows. Cause I’m like, I know whatever happens, the twists and turns, it’s going to be solved in 60 minutes.

So I can’t get into it, but I don’t know. I enjoy it. I like track.

There is a certain level of comfort in that kind of, you know, show you have to be in the right mood for it certainly. But when you are in the mood for just sort of a low lift. You know, entertaining show. That’s not really going to tax your brain or stress you out too much.

You know, those kinds of shows can do wonders. So yeah. And that shows, you know, trackers doing very well for them. So, you know, every time,

every time you see a commercial for it, they tell you how many people have been watching tracker. You know, so, either they’re lying or they’re getting a lot of, I think a lot are also on stream because this is a show that I never, again, I never watch it live.

I never watch it on Saturday nights. And if I do on Sunday nights, it’s well after I’m done watching other shows. Does I, you know, the answer to this, I probably should, but I don’t does Bravo do one? But since they have 900 shows, do they do a upfront for theirs or no? Cause we all know they’re never, they’re

part of the NBC hootenanny.

And you know, they so yeah, they get their own In terms of the big presentation, they go with NBC.

Okay. So then, and then for them, I know that the Valley was picked up for a season two, which is essentially a Vanderpump spinoff, but kind of, but kind of not. Yeah, it kind of is. Right. But they haven’t announced officially about if there’s going to be a Vanderpump season 12.

We do know that production has been delayed. They’re not going to film this summer. I don’t know if that has to do with Ariana being the Love Island host and doing more. Chicago on Broadway. By the way, have you seen that? Have you seen Chicago on Broadway with Ariana or no?

No, I do not. I’ve seen Chicago on Broadway once a bazillion years ago, but I, I, that’s, that was enough.

Okay. Did you not like Chicago? No, I’m just, Chicago’s fine. I’m just not a theater person and especially one like that, that is, you know, Very sort of aimed at a specific tourist trap crowd with the, you know, with the stunt casting and all of that, you know, I’m sure she’s great and good for her, but I, you know, I don’t need to see that again.

No.

What about, are you going to go see, are you interested in seeing back to the future on Broadway? Cause I’ve heard that’s great.

No, I mean, honestly, you know, maybe the only one, there’s a karate kid coming, right? Maybe I’ll see that on Broadway. I’m pretty sure, unless I just had some kind of stroke slash fever dream but I’m pretty sure I’m looking it up right now, Broadway.

I know they’re doing that,

we’ll get to this in a second, this is where we’re going to end with our, our proverbial karate kid, Cobra Kai talk at the end of this podcast.

It sounds like it’s still in development. Yeah.

So as we know we’re big fans of Cobra Kai and a couple of weeks ago they announced their season six.

Final season is going to be split up into three, five episode drops. The first one happens, I believe, July 19th something like that. At first one, 17th and 19th of July. And then we got to wait till November 25th for the next five episodes. And then the final five episodes, they just said. Coming in 2025 and I’m like, okay, so I mean figure, you know, between July and November’s four months, November, it probably, I would guess March or April of 2025 is where we’re going to get the five episodes of that.

But then they’re doing this whole reboot of the movie. I don’t know if they’re just pretending that the karate kid movie made with Jackie Chan and Will Smith’s son never happened, but they’re doing. A Karate Kid movie with Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio. And I don’t know if this is just a reboot of the original.

I I’m so confused. I don’t think it

is. And I, or at least I don’t think we know that it is. I think it’s, you know, I think at this point it is in that universe and, you know, the Cobra Kai verse, the Karate Kid verse but I do not think that it’s. You know, or Miyagi verse, that’s what we call it, right? So I do not think that it’s, you know, officially a reboot per se.

It’s just some kind of new Karate Kid movie. And it is

And Ralph and Jackie Chan are in it. Ralph

and Jackie Chan are in it. You know, the big three John Hurwitz, Josh Field, and Hayden, you know, say they’re not, you know, from Cobra Kai, they say they’re not involved, at least they weren’t at the time and, you know, I, a lot of big questions for nerds like us, like, will it take place, you know, post Cobra Kai?

Is it pre Cobra Kai? You know, is it like mid Cobra Kai? Is it like one of those gap, you know, are we at some point going to find out that, you know, During some downtime from Miyagi Do, you know, Daniel went to Japan and did a whole thing with Jackie Chan for with a new credit kit. I don’t know. There’s a lot of questions we don’t know the answer to.

So it’s really just It’s not, it’s supposed to be out. Although I do think it’s possible they moved the state. It was originally announced to be out December, 2024, but something tells me that they moved that hang on. Cause they moved, oh, they did. They moved it new karate kid movie date. Sorry.

It’s they moved it to May 30th, 2025. So,

so that looks like it’s coming out after Cobra Kai is all said and done.

Yeah, so presumably then, yeah, maybe they are. You know the the final burst of episodes Again, it’s not you know, it’s The cobra kai doesn’t really have you know, and the creators of cobra kai and netflix don’t really have anything to do with this movie So there’s no real reason they would try to coordinate that other than You know, fan service, I think, but it’s possible that, you know, maybe the final batch of episodes will drop and in the spring and not too long after that, you know, the new Krabby Kid movie.

And then from everything that the creators of Cobra Kai have said that it’s while season six is going to be the end of Cobra Kai, they’ve hinted that just because of its success is going to continue in some form or fashion. So maybe we get a spin off of,

yeah, no, they’ve absolutely talked, you know, obliquely, but clearly enough that they’re interested in, you know, telling other stories with characters from this universe.

So whether it’s, you know, you know, something like you get a Terry Silver spinoff, or maybe it’s a minor character that, you know, gets a spinoff or it’s, you know, they’ll introduce some new characters this final season who will get their own spinoff, you know, but it sounds like they are you know, very interested in continuing this universe, which, you know, is good.

I mean, they certainly have other things going on as well You’re

your favorite obliterated,

obliterated. They love, I mean, people loved it and maybe they’ll do another season. I don’t know, but I think they would be they’ve been pretty clear that they love this property. So

I would be 100 percent all in for a Terry silver series.

I mean, I want

Terry silver to team with Mike Barnes again. They don’t have to be bad guys, but if we had a whole series dedicated to Terry silver, firing up another karate dojo and Mike Barnes is either his apprentice or

to be, to be a good guy though, cause he’s now reformed and he’s a master furniture maker.

So maybe, maybe he’s, you know, maybe we do a Mike Barnes spinoff where. You know, he’s like furniture salesman by day, you know, sensei by night. I don’t know.

It’s been so long with the writer strike pushback season six. It’s been so long. I only watched season five once, right. When it, you know, dropped, I watched the whole thing straight through.

When we last left Terry Silver, he was basically done. He was going to jail. He was going to jail.

He was going to jail for, you know, for attempted murder on Stingray. Oh yeah. You know, and framing, and framing Kreese for it. So, You know, maybe we do a jail, maybe it’s silver in jail and he starts like a prison dojo.

Like, come on,

I would watch that. Well, I mean, the end of season four of Cobra Kai had crease going to jail and Terry Silver being the main villain for season five. Now at the end of season five, it was the same. I got to believe, you know, the, they’re very creative in how they show us the trailers. We did not see Terry Silver in the season six trailer, but that doesn’t mean obviously he’s not going to be in, I can’t imagine he’s not going to be in the final season.

We did see crease. He’s definitely, he’s out and about, he’s out and about. Although

like, is he running from the law? We see him like basically you know, Teaching another dojo, but like, he faked his death and, and escaped prison, so presumably, you know, somebody’s going to discover that he escaped and is not dead, but who knows?

Again, we don’t, you know, these are questions that we will, we will just have to wait over the course of several You know, segments of this final season to get answered,

just whatever you do for whatever spinoff of Cobra Kai. I don’t need a series revolving around Hawk. Nice kid. I know, just let’s not, you know, maybe it’s just, and maybe the new season, the new series, whatever it is, is just taking the kids, whether it’s Robbie and Miguel, and it’s just kind of that group and you leave the parents and, and Johnny and.

Yeah. And

Ralph out of it. I, you know, I don’t know.

Yeah, cause they have to like do things other than take karate lessons, right? So like presumably, you know, maybe we just keep see them at school. You know, I do like a lot of those actors. But yeah, it’ll, I, because, you know, the, the three creators sort of did the impossible by making a Karate Kid sequel TV series that was actually really, really good, I’m going to trust that whatever they come up with, you know, they’ll have a good reason to do it.

For why they spun, you know, any particular character off. And I will give it a shot because it is very, very difficult to do what they did with an existing property. And you know, they did it with much success. So, so we have to, we have to place our faith in them.

Not only do what they did, but do it for six seasons.

Like whoever thought we’d get six seasons of Cobra Kai when this was first announced. Like,

When it was first announced on YouTube Red, remember? That was their primary, and, and I remember watching that first season, you know, I start, you know, I started watching it, they sent me the screeners, and I was like, okay, you know, I know I have to watch this, this is my job but I was like blown away by how good it was and I was like, I remember at one point I was like tearing up when when Daniel said Yagi’s grave and I was like what is happening?

What have these people done? What kind of witchcraft is this? So yeah, it was really and then obviously as you know, you know It eventually went to netflix and became an even bigger hit. But yeah, they they really did What one would think would be the impossible

because for the longest time we had heard, I mean, this movie came out in the eighties, you know, this was the longest time we had heard, is there going to be a reboot or, or are they going to do a TV show?

Are they ever going to bring back or, Hey, we are going to see what happened with Daniel and Johnny. And then it’s just like, it was just. Always out there and then it was like, Oh, it’s finally getting made. And you’re like, okay, what’s this going to be? Oh, it’s on YouTube red. Like how good can this be? And then it

just

blows people away.

Yeah. And then, you know, the, the, the last scene in the first season was you’re watching the whole season. You’re just like, but what about crease and all this? How can you not bring him back? And then he shows up in the final scene and that’s the way season one ends. And you’re like, Oh, okay. Oh, wow. And then they did it every season where that last scene in every season was like, Oh shit, we got a major thing.

That was the oh shit

moment. Yeah. And we have a major

thing heading into the next season. Same thing with season four when we see my boys show up chosen and he shows up at Daniel’s with Miyagi’s grave with Daniel. And you’re like, Oh, wow. Oh my God, I’ve chosen is showing up and he’s going to team with Daniel.

Are you kidding me? Like, I know it’s just, yeah,

they, they really, because they are true fans of the, this franchise, you know, they know exactly what is going to get people worked up. I mean, we certainly, we haven’t talked about the fact that like, you know, we still haven’t seen Julie Pierce in this in this.

Franchise, you know, Hillary Swank’s character. So will she show up in the final season? You know, that’s the last big sort of callback character, right? That was the

next thing I was going to tell you. It’s just like of everything that they’ve done and everybody they’ve pulled from The past first three movies, cause they haven’t touched on next karate kid or the Jackie Chan Jaden’s right one.

If we’re sticking to the first three movies, there is no major character they could possibly bring back that would generate a, Oh, wow. Moment. I, it would be a bit player who was just like, Oh, you know, whether it’s right. His buddy Freddie from the first movie that was barely in it. Like he wouldn’t be a big deal.

It’d be like, Oh, it’s a nice callback. Maybe, maybe give him one episode, but there’s nobody that they can bring back. That’s big, I guess, outside of Hillary Swank. But you know what? I don’t think I ever saw. Next karate kid from beginning to end. I’ve seen it show up on cable every once in a while. I don’t even remember it.

I couldn’t even tell you who she fought. I

wouldn’t be able to tell you the first, you know, beat of that plot. Yeah. Just other than that, she’s obviously the one, one major character that we haven’t seen, you know, cause she was with Miyagi and so yeah, it’ll, I’m sure they, they. They are aware of the fan, the, you know, the fan passion to have this have her show up and, you know, I hope she does.

She’s, you know, sort of jokingly indicated in, you know, without really saying much of anything in interviews when asked that she, you know, would be up for it. So I think it’s just a matter of like Are they able to figure out a way that makes sense to have her in the story and does it work for her schedule for her to go down to Atlanta or whatever, you know, to do,

to do the shoot?

Because we’ve seen, we’ve seen all three of Daniel’s girlfriends from all three movies make appearances. We’ve seen the villain from season two from Crotty Kid two chosen. We’ve seen the villain, the villains from Crotty Kid three silver. Yeah. And, and Mike Barnes, they even had the throwback to, you know, well, yeah, Jessica Andrews, his girlfriend and, and, you know, Robin Lively shows up in season five.

So yeah, it’s like, you can’t bring back any girlfriends. You can’t bring back any villains. There’s just, they’ve covered everybody. Season one, we got all the Cobra Kai original guys back and you know, some of them appeared I think in season two or three. It’s like, okay, there’s nobody left unless you bring back somebody.

You know, the Filipino guy that was in the semifinals against Johnny in the movie. It’s like, I’ve seen, I’ve seen him on interviews. Like when, remember, remember during the pandemic when Josh Gad did that great thing of bringing back old casts for his YouTube show,

he

did a Karate Kid one. And, and they brought back, I mean, Robin Lively was on that.

The Filipino guy from. The first movie was on it. They had everybody and that was the first time. And that was before Cobra Kai was even out, I believe. So yeah, I mean, again, it would just be bit parts. There’s no major players left outside of Hillary swank. And then if you want to go into the. N Next Karate Kid movie, which right.

Do you go to, but you wouldn’t bring back Jackie Chan and Cobra Kai because seemingly we’re getting a movie with him.

Right.

Jaden Smith? I, I, I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s, I don’t know.

Yeah. I don’t think it would have the same impact. Yeah.

So, but we’ll be watching, even though they’re gonna extend it out over about a nine month period.

I know. The final season, what is the Sopranos, what the hell are they doing? Right. You know? But we’ll, we’ll definitely be watching. I mean, I think the good thing is. With five episodes in July, five in November, and then five in probably April or May of next year to pound out five episodes is going to be a lot easier than running through the whole season when they release it at midnight and I got to stay up till 5 a.

m. So I’ll be able to knock out five episodes, probably like watching a three hour movie. Basically,

I know you’ll, this’ll be a real relief for you because I know you’re, this is your, your ritual is to

Watch the whole thing. Yeah. Yeah. And they always released it at midnight. It’s like, can you release it at 6 p.

m. or something, you know, but yeah, so we’re all set to go. Can’t wait for that to come out. Kristen, thank you so much again for coming on. Great TV talk. Really appreciate it. And obviously we’ll be in touch.

All right. Well, good talking to you.

Talk to you soon. Bye bye. Bye. Thank you so much to Kristen for coming on.

Love talking TV with her, get you ready for what’s coming up in the fall. And I guess even in the spring for some shows on your networks and your streaming services. And you know, it’s just, TV is just so different now. It’s weird for me. I’ve adjusted to it. You know, even though I don’t, the crazy thing is, even though I don’t watch, like you heard me saying the podcast, even though I don’t watch many scripted shows on streaming services, I have all of them, every single one of them.

I have max, I have peacock, I have. Hulu. I have Disney plus I have Netflix. I have all of them, but most of the time I’m using those apps to watch for Netflix. I’m watching a lot of comedy shows and Hulu. I’m watching, you know, old episodes of older shows. Like it’s not for any newer stuff. And I’m pro so I’m probably in the minority on that, but I’m still going to get them and if they bundle them and I can save some money, even better.

So again, thanks to Kristen for coming on. Really appreciate it. Thank you all for listening. Please rate, subscribe and review. Follow me on Apple podcasts, but you got to hit play. If you miss a day, please go back and hit play. I’d really appreciate it. That would certainly help a lot. The sports daily was posted an hour ago.
