Podcast #398 – Interview with Chad & Lizzie from “Game of Roses” Podcast (And Transcripts)

PODCAST #398 TRANSCRIPTS WITH CHAD & LIZZIE FROM GAME OF ROSES PODCAST

You are listening to the reality. Steve podcast with your host reality. Steve. He’s got all the latest info and behind the scenes juice on Jen’s upcoming season of the bachelorette and interviewing some of your favorite reality stars. Now here’s reality. Steve. What’s

up everybody. Welcome to podcast number 398. I’m your host reality. Steve. Thank you all for tuning in. A good 4th of July show for you. A little bachelorette preview a bit with Chad and Lizzie from Game of Roses. And we’ll get to all that momentarily. First off, just wanted to wish everybody out there a very happy and healthy 4th of July.

Please be careful if you’re lighting off fireworks to not blow one of your digits off. We hear the stories every 4th of July, inevitably it’s going to happen. I just hope none of you do it. You know, I hope nobody does it, but I know that’s wishful thinking because we will see a story on the news tonight.

Or a story on the news tomorrow about somebody who had a firework accident and somebody got injured badly. And that’s just never any good. So we are on Pat podcast, number three 98 with game of roses, Chad and Lizzie. We talk about, you know, I said in the beginning, a little bachelorette preview, but I wouldn’t even call it a preview because we don’t even talk about the season because they are not a spoiler.

Podcast. They don’t want to know spoilers. So it’s more about everything that’s happened since Joey’s after the final rose, when we found out Jen was announced, then Maria, excuse me, Daisy, that night being brought out and possibly being the bachelorette, but then saying, no, not interested. And then Maria going on, call her daddy and saying, I was the bachelorette until I wasn’t.

And then Jen getting back from filming and going call on color daddy last week and saying, you’re not the bachelorette until you are. And. Seemingly throwing shade at her. So that’s where we’re at with everything. And we talk about everything in between the LA times article from last week as well. So a lot of stuff to get to today in the podcast.

I will say this podcast number 400 is coming up in two weeks, 400. I have not missed a weekly podcast since I started it in December of what was it, December of, I always forget if I started in 2015 or 16, I think it’s December of 2016 anyway. I cannot believe I’m at 400 episodes. I cannot believe when I started, by the way, a week from today is the two year anniversary of the daily roundup.

I started July 11th, 2022 have not missed an episode in two years. I kind of amaze myself sometimes because certainly when I started out podcasting. In 2016, did I ever think I was going to be doing episode number 400 in a couple of weeks, but it’s a milestone. It’s a nice round number. I decided to get a very interesting podcast guest on.

I have someone that is going to be prerecorded. Obviously they’re all prerecorded, but I will tell you two things. Number one, it’s somebody who’s never been on the podcast and number two, that will be the first weekly podcast. And from that podcast going forward, the weekly podcast will also be on my YouTube channel.

So be on the lookout for that. I will promote it. It’ll be all over my YouTube channel. And I’d say it is somebody, like I said, never been on the podcast before, but it is somebody that is certainly in the news and certainly someone I’m interested in talking to you and I’m certain is talking to, and certainly someone that I think a lot of you are interested in hearing from as well.

So that’s coming up in two weeks. I don’t know who next week’s podcast guest is for three 99. Although I do have an idea, I got to send out an email to their publicist and hopefully I get them. If not. I’ll find somebody else. Podcast number 400, very special guest. Looking forward to talking to them in two weeks.

Daily Roundup was posted a couple hours ago. I talk about the new podcast art. I’m sure you’ve seen it on my social media. I’m sure you’ve seen it when you’re downloading this podcast today. The picture you’ve been looking at of me holding the remote control with the reality Steve caption above it. I took that in 2011 because that’s when I became incorporated and this became my full time job.

Did a professional photo shoot and we went through a bunch of pictures and a bunch of poses. I’m not a picture guy. I’m certainly not a model. And I was just like, yeah, this one looks good. I like the one with the remote and me holding the remote and whatever. Let’s go with that. That’s literally been the picture on my Instagram and my Twitter for the last 13 years.

I figured it was time to change. It hasn’t changed on my website yet. Hopefully that’ll be done in the next couple weeks, but I do need to get an actual picture of myself. I’m just not a picture guy. I don’t like taking pictures. That’s why I waited so long to do a YouTube channel. I don’t like being on camera.

So I got to find somehow take a picture of myself and use that going forward as my thumbnail for my YouTube channel. I don’t know if I want to use the cartoon for my YouTube channel thumbnails. So, but that’s the new photo. I went with it. Pretty cool. Pretty decent looking cartoon. You know, cartoon can’t look exactly like you, but I think that looks pretty close to me has a little more hair, but Hey, it’s somebody that I’d be friends with.

And I think you should be friends with too. How about that? Also on the daily roundup, I talk about a little bit more about Caitlin and the clarification from yesterday and what I had to say about her being on the let’s be honest podcast with Kristen Cavallari. Just something I wanted to clarify there and then get into what Caitlin posted yesterday on her Instagram story that I totally agree with.

This hate for Caitlin over things that are just so irrelevant is completely getting out of hand. She had every right to go off yesterday on people. I wish she would have shown us the messages that she did get and leave the names of those people in those messages. Because I think that’s the only way stuff like that will ever come to an end.

If you actually call these people out by name, especially Caitlin’s followers, because if Caitlin posts one message, some nasty message she got from somebody and posts their screen name. I guarantee a bunch of her fans are going to attack that person. And that person will then basically have to go to private or cancel their Instagram because they’re not going to want to hear the wrath of her fans.

So that’s why I’m all for calling out people and not somebody just has a differing opinion. It’s got to be something threatening calling you names, which it certainly looks like she got yesterday because she was pretty bothered by the responses. She got for literally just braiding her niece’s hair.

Totally ridiculous. I can’t believe people are still doing this. As they say, some people really need to go out there and touch grass. Seriously. All right. This podcast is brought to you by Prolon. These days, a lot of people are learning about the benefits of fasting like weight loss, mental and physical performance and gut health, but they worry about the whole not eating part.

Like, What do you mean? I’m not going to eat. I can’t eat anything. Well, that’s why Prolon was created. So you know what to eat each day. It’s very simple. I’ve been using it for a few months now, and it’s been very easy on me. I have dropped weight.

Some of you noticed when I posted my picture with Jordan and Jojo this past weekend, shit, even I noticed. And that was crazy for me to notice it. Cause I don’t take many pictures of myself. I see myself in the mirror every day. And you know, you’re, you know, when you’re looking at yourself, you’re like, did I lose anything?

I can’t really tell that picture. I could actually tell. And so could a lot of you, it supports metabolic and cardiovascular health and changes your relationship with food in just five days. Game of roses podcast gearing up for another season of the bachelorette coming up this Monday.

Always great to have Chad and Lizzie on. How are you two doing? Excited to get this season underway. Yeah.

Thanks for having us. You realize that, and I, you know, I’ve always, I’ve known

we were up there in the forties or whatever, but this is season 49. We’ve got 28 bachelor seasons in the books and now this is.

Jen is number 21 for bachelorette. So gosh, 23 bachelorettes have held the, the role, but only 21 seasons. I mean, I’m sure in 2003, nobody ever thought that we would be here and. Considering what the L. A. Times thinks about this franchise they probably didn’t think it either with their thoughts last week.

But we’ll definitely get to that. I want to start off with this. I kind of want to go back to the beginning of when we found out about Jen, and I know you guys obviously have thoughts on this. We go back to the night of Joey’s finale and Maria is sitting in the audience. They’re bringing Daisy out on stage, all dolled up new hair, new makeup, full dress, and everyone’s thinking, well, clearly she’s going to be the bachelorette.

I mean, how can you not make her the bachelorette? And they bring her out there to basically. I guess inform the audience like, Hey, we wanted her, but we’re going to let her tell you why she doesn’t want to do it. It’s like, okay. And then they announced

it was such a rollercoaster of emotions that episode.

I could not handle it. Yeah.

I mean, I, I mean, I think everybody with the way the ending went down and then to know that she was being brought out on stage and the way they dressed her up, I clearly, I, I think we all thought it was going to be Daisy, right?

I don’t remember her being dressed up in a specific way, but I remember seeing Maria out out in the nosebleed section and I was like, Dang it

Yeah, I mean she clearly got the bachelorette edit Yeah And I think in and she kind of fits the mold for what you would think a traditional bachelorette would be Fits at least what we’ve seen a bunch of times in prior seasons from them white

blonde thin Yeah,

and so I think it was clear that the show wanted her to be the bachelorette and for whatever personal reason she had But She did not accept it.

So then the next choice seemed like it was going to be Maria because that’s who bachelor nation wanted. There were so many people online saying Maria, Maria, Maria. She obviously was the most explosive player out of that season. And I think a bachelorette season of Maria Georges would have been absolutely insane, but for whatever reason, She had the crown for a couple of days.

At least that’s the reporting that we’ve got. And then she rejected it after she was going through kind of her fittings and those first shootings and stuff. And we don’t really know why that was the case either, but yeah. Steve,

you know, everything, you got all, all the whispers, what happened?

I don’t, I guess I heard just rumors like you guys did, but I thought, you know, the next thing I wanted to talk about in regards to that was Maria going on, call her daddy, and then.

Yeah, taking that interview and then putting it on and putting it against what Jen said on call her daddy, there seems to be some very major miscommunication going on here about who had what and when. So let’s go back to Maria on call her daddy. Maria literally said it was mine until it wasn’t. Going through the fittings and then all of a sudden I just decided I wasn’t that happy and I should have been happier.

And I know that Jen wanted it and almost like she bequeathed it to her and it’s like, okay, but then Jen. When she’s on call her daddy last week, I think that was a direct response to Maria saying it was mine until it wasn’t when Jen gives the line. It’s not, it’s not yours until it’s yours. Like that was a direct shot of Maria.

Like her suggesting that multiple people get contracts and fittings. Yeah, we know. I know that they, I know they do multiple contracts. I know that they’ve shot promos for bachelorettes who haven’t happened. Yeah, do they do fittings?

I don’t That was pretty much the first i’ve heard of multiple fittings.

I’ve obviously heard. Oh, yeah intro videos being shot and contracts Yeah

did not know I completely agree I think for what it’s worth my two cents on this is based on all the same information you have which is Primarily the two call her daddy appearances of maria and jen.

Yeah record

It is now the Bachelor podcaster record.

I think that Maria did have it. I think she was the Bachelorette. And then somewhere in that first week of putting together her promo package and all that stuff, she was like, Nah, I don’t want to do this. And, and what, and what, Really, I think the big takeaway for me from this is is despite all their best efforts in the bachelor franchise to kind of turn the ship around from the most recent seasons where they were just like Beating their leads into the ground like what they did to clayton eckard what they did to gabby and rachel rekkia, especially just like mistreating What’s that lizzie

the shalcross?

Yeah, back shalcross All all that stuff I think that despite their best efforts to kind of support their leads, which I do think they’re doing now There was still a tinge of fear coming from both daisy and maria Where they were offered the crown and were like, you know what i’ve seen what you do to leads I don’t think so I’m gonna take my 600 to 800 000 instagram followers and go see what I can do with that instead

I think it’s that I think it’s the first season we’ve had in a long time Probably since season like 25 that people have gotten these numbers and if you’ve already gotten the numbers without being a lead Why would you go, why would you put yourself through that at this point?

Yeah. And I think you can only go down.

I think when Jen went on call her daddy to say what she did, obviously, because as she mentioned on that podcast, like, Hey, when Maria was on call her daddy, I was off filming, so I couldn’t respond to this then. I didn’t know it was said until I got back. And she wanted to put a narrative out there.

Like, I actually don’t really know what the narrative she was looking for was, but the bottom line is. She is the bachelorette, but what we do know is, and I don’t know if she was trying to convey this or not, but she definitely wasn’t the first choice. And that’s the whole kind of point of this. We know that Jen wasn’t their first option, you know, and when you look at it, yeah, I mean, why bring Daisy out on stage?

If she, if you never had any interest in her being the bachelorette, clearly they wanted her She had other reasons. Clearly she was dating somebody else and that’s why she didn’t do it. And then, you know, Maria goes on, call her daddy, what’s two or three weeks into Jen’s filming and does that or an interview and says it was me until it wasn’t.

Now it just becomes okay. Then why did Jen say it’s not you? It, it, it. It’s not you until it’s you. Does she know something that we don’t know? Does, is Maria confused as well? I was in talks with them and I was going for fittings. That’s why I know it was me. That’s where I’m confused if it actually was Maria, because then we had somebody and an alumni that we know very well, Wells chimed in during that time before Maria went on call her daddy to say.

Hey, I heard it was her and they started filming with her and she was incredibly difficult and wanted too much money and they fired her. So could it be that? I don’t know.

Yes, totally. It could be. And I also think everything Jen is saying, like when Jen Tran goes on, call her daddy to promote her upcoming season.

There have been people in the bachelor franchise that have kind of coached her on what to say for sure. Not walking into that interview just completely blind So whatever the party line is about who was or wasn’t the bachelorette and why the decisions were made or weren’t made Jen, tran has had conversations with people at high levels in the bachelor franchise about how to handle that question or that issue So whatever she’s saying on call her daddy is To some degree i’m not saying it’s totally scripted.

But like Producers have told her. Hey, if this comes up, maybe you handle it like this that conversation definitely isn’t has been had in the past.

I almost think the vibe was You’re not the bachelorette until you shoot a night one, you know, and it airs and then you’re the bachelorette I I it’s whenever there’s like rumors about people being hard to work with especially women i’m like Okay.

Claire, they, I remember the rumors about her being hard to work with, and then she’s talking about how she basically didn’t want to force the guys to be fully nude for the, the dodgeball thing. You know, it’s like, okay, are they hard to work with or are you trying to make them do like demeaning, horrible things?

Yeah. Yeah. And, but if Maria hadn’t filmed yet, you wonder like how much truth there is to that. They filmed in terms of, you know, A first night or whatever and where, and where Wells got that information. She was

the worst person you can imagine at a fitting. She just started like biting all the seamstresses.

Yeah. Well, I mean, Wells went into particulars, which was actually kind of surprising. Because Wells isn’t just some viewer of the show. He clearly works on Bachelor in Paradise when that was a thing. And, He’s getting his information from somebody somewhere in production. So it’s kind of hard to say he’s, he’s completely dismissive.

You can completely dismiss it, but you know, to say that she wanted her best friend to be her producer and what was the other, what was the other particular that he gave one detail that he gave Wasn’t that she wanted her cell phone or something? Yeah. And wanted her cell phone as well. Yeah. Which seems like just a ridiculous ask because it’s never happened before for a season.

So, you know, you wonder why, why did Wells say that? Why did they, you know, the other thing was Alex Cooper saying, we were all set to announce you as the bachelorette, which is totally bizarre. I, there’s no way the show was gonna, Oh yeah. She said it on the podcast. She said, Hey, we were set to announce you on this podcast as the bachelorette, which doesn’t make any sense to me.

They would never announce their bachelorette on a podcast. Wait,

why not? No, but they are now. It’s the biggest podcast like they had Jen go on there. I mean, whatever. It’s the biggest for like the women and gays Yeah, who are the audience? And I think it’s amazing that they’re letting Jen go on, you know I think it would have been a great way to announce Maria.

Yeah, it really does seem to me like call her daddy now is It has eclipsed bachelor happy hour obviously in popularity But it does seem to be like that’s where the major players are going now and that gen tran interview Which is an official bachelor nation you know bachelorette coming out to promote her season That’s all arranged by the producers by abc.

Yeah, so even The show itself, the franchise itself, now recognizes that Bachelor Happy Hour is kind of pointless. It’s second fiddle, if anything, to Call Her Daddy. And that’s where they’re going to send everybody from now on, I think, to do as much promotion as they can. And so when, when What’s that, Lizzie?

And I think they should like they have oh absolutely Celebrity bachelor fans, like why not take advantage of her?

And so when alex cooper is saying we were set to announce you as the bachelorette That’s because that deal was already done abc Made that deal with her She was ready. That was gonna be what that show was and then all of a sudden that’s not what it is anymore So if ABC had been already scheduling promotion to announce the Bachelorette on that show That means Maria was the Bachelorette at some point period.

Yeah Alex Cooper has no reason to make that up. I don’t know. I’m

only wondering if Alex Cooper The wording is more a semantics thing. Maybe she was saying after the announcement of you as the bachelorette, whether it be on after the final rose, you had already pre recorded an interview with me that was going to run.

And your first interview as the Bachelorette was going to be with us rather than GMA or Jimmy Kimmel or something like that. So maybe it could have been a semantics thing and she just narrowed it down to we were going to announce you versus first to announce you. You know, it could be something like that.

That’s the other thing I thought. I

feel like it still means the same thing though. Yeah. It was like the plan.

Well, I mean, shit. Jen’s interview is the first interview she did for her upcoming season. And she did it on call her daddy. She didn’t go to happy hour. She didn’t go to Caitlin. Yeah. I mean, it’s, it makes me,

it makes me very excited for the franchise.

Me too like like they’re thinking about like new new strategies of promotion and like a younger audience and

a bigger audience those other podcasts are all like they’re very Insular to bachelor nation even vials. I would argue is still primarily a bachelor nation podcast Call her daddy is so much bigger than the show itself.

Having Jen Tran go on there means that possibly you’re going to reinvigorate the audience from people who may have checked out of the franchise for a while, or even people who are like, well, shit, I’ve never watched the bachelor, but Jen Tran was great on my favorite podcast. I’ll check out night one of her season.

And First Asian Bachelorette, like, I mean, it’s an exciting thing, and I hope, I hope it does do that. I hope we get a big audience just like Joey’s.

Speaking of First Asian Bachelorette, that obviously came into play when the LA Times released an article last week in regards to the state of the art. of the franchise.

And there were a lot of interesting quotes in this thing. I know you guys have covered it, but I wanted to talk about it with you. I think one of the most revealing things, which kind of goes to what we just talked about in the first 15 minutes with the fact that Jen not being the initial choice for them was them saying they dropped the ball when it came to casting Asian men for Jen season.

They said, yeah, that’s on us. It’s like, Okay, I’m glad you admitted it, but you realize you were in control of that. Yeah, at least they’re

admitting

it. But they controlled that, they could have changed it, so it’s like, how many more mistakes do you keep making and saying, yeah, that’s on us, just like before, ugh, it took us fifteen seasons to have a black bachelor, josh, it’s, I’m embarrassed by that, great.

Okay. I, I’m glad that you’re admitting it, but , I mean,

it’s classic bachelor to just completely flub your way through the, like , progressive new changes. But we’ve never heard them say like this kind of dialogue about it, of like, yeah, we’re going in a new direction, and like, come with us or don’t. I feel like that hasn’t, hasn’t really been voiced before.

Yeah, that line of It’s been a much

different thing.

That line that they ended it with of, what, if you, if you don’t want to see interracial relationships, if you don’t want to see black love, if you don’t want to see Asian love, then maybe Bachelor Nation isn’t for you. That’s a very, very profound statement coming from them.

Yes. They have never said anything like that, but I will say this. Like, I totally agree with you. They dropped the ball. They, you know, miscast the season. It’s good that they’re taking accountability for it. Even before the season comes out, it’s like, they’re not waiting for bachelor nation to get super mad and have, you know, hashtag bad, but so white and all that they’re, they’re trying to, you know, Head this off.

They’re trying to not

have Bachelor So White trend again.

Yeah, they’re trying to head it off, you know, before it starts a little bit, but even beyond just the PR of it all, I do think everything going back to Charity Lawson’s Bachelorette season 20, which was the first season without Mike Fleiss at the helm of it as the creator, I think it has been getting better and better in terms of representation and, and maybe in terms of how they’re treating their leads.

Even, like, with Trudy Lawson certainly with Joey Graziadie, they are not trying to, at least it seems like, they are not trying to just blast their leads into oblivion, and really make them look bad, and do harm to them at least to their mental health. And for that reason alone i’m like i’m excited about everything that’s happening in bachelor nation Even what was in the la times article.

I know the article was meant to be like, oh look Bachelors, you know doing racism again. I do think they’re trying at least like an earnest effort to correct these things

Chad and I were wondering how they were gonna address that like what way they were gonna go just ignore it Or call it out. And I’m glad they’re going to calling it out.

Yeah. I mean, it wasn’t that long ago that it was bachelorette season 19, Eric, a picture of Eric Schwartz, Gabby Wendy’s ring winner surfaced of him in blackface in his high school yearbook. And they literally swept it under the rug. They did not even mention it ever.

Which

basically cut Michelle young because of that.

I was just

going to, I was just going to say that basically forced Michelle young to be like, I don’t want to be part of this anymore. And she’s obviously like,

Yeah, the bar is low, but we are happy to be, I

mean, it’s, they gave answers that we’ve never heard them give. And right now, right now it’s just words. We, they have to, you know, the, the old cliche actions speak louder than words. So let’s see if they follow up by what they said in this article. That will be a telling sign.

And we’ll see. Are they going to stick by, Hey, if you don’t want to see interracial relationships or black love or Asian love, don’t, you know, you might not be for you now, let’s see, you know, let’s see going forward if we do get, you know, leads that are of other ethnic, that aren’t white, you know, it’s just like, let’s, let’s see.

Do you think

the next lead will be from this season? I would think so.

I mean, that’s the way they’ve always done it and they never really get away from it. It’s possible. We’ll

see Ari Lyondyke.

Yeah, that was, but that was. I haven’t gone away from it in a while. In a while. Yeah. That was Ari the last, wasn’t he the last one?

I mean, some people, some people can say Matt James. But he was set to be on Claire’s Season if there was no pandemic. Like he was, yeah, I get it. You can say Matt James, but it’s not like he was picked out of thin air. He was a contestant on Claire’s Season when the cast was announced. So, yeah, it’ll be interesting to see if they follow through.

Maybe not necessarily one of Jen’s guys, but maybe it’s at least someone in this franchise, who knows, you know, they might go back. Maybe,

Allow me to revisit a prediction I made back in Bachelorette Season 17 when I saw a young Blake Moines step out of the limo for the first time I believe he may be our next bachelorette.

You mean bachelor? I would hope he’s not a bachelor. Sorry Yeah, our next bachelor or rather season 16.

Sorry, I mean

Yeah. Oh, what makes, so what makes you think Blake or just what makes you have him as a possible possibility?

We always do these things every, before every season, we go through the Instagrams of all the incoming players.

And when I saw his Instagram, I was like, there’s something about him. He’s got it. He’s got that thing that he could be the bachelor. He has the

charisma, he has the unique, like, job that they could make the whole theme of the season, you know, animals. I, yeah, I don’t know. I was gonna say, would he

be able to take two months off from saving whales and elephants to do this?

Absolutely. I think there will always be some whales and always be some elephants even two months from now. But we have seen him really turn in a performance in the game that at this point, is just a crown shy of eclipsing Nick Vial as the greatest player of all time. Vial had two back to back seasons, including Bachelorette rookie seasons, including one where he broke into the season halfway through in Caitlin Bristow’s Season 11.

Yeah, but he never

won a ring, and Blake did.

That’s what I’m saying. That’s why I’m saying, if Blake wins the crown What’s that?

I’m saying he’s already up there.

Yeah. Blake is already up there in, in stats and everything, but until you are the bachelor or bachelorette, I think it’s, it’s very hard to argue that you’re one of the greatest players of all time.

So if he can achieve that, I think he’s, he’s on the Mount Rushmore.

Yeah. I totally forgot. You know, it’s funny. The thing

is the best player of all time. So already, already incorrect facts. Caitlin Bristow,

you know, it’s funny to think that Blake Moynes

I’ll ever host the show. No, only a group date.

He wishes he hosted the show, cause, you know, when Chris Harrison came out and said, hey, people were after my job, we all know one of those people was 1000 percent Nick Vial.

He absolutely was.

And she didn’t need She only needed one season to get the crown.

That’s true.

Anyway, this is a fight Chad and I are constantly having.
