Back to more dance with the Stars coverage. We’re getting to that port part of the show. I mean, next week is the semi-finals, so I don’t wanna say they have to weed out the bad dancers.
There’s only one really bad dancer, and that’s Andy. He’s not bad. He’s just not nearly and remotely close to anybody else on this show, but he’s got a good story. People loved voting for him, but it was time for him to go and that’s why. You had what, three perfect scores last night, and Andy was given three sevens and an eight.
He lost his dance even though he had Kaitlyn Bristow with him, which you knew he was gonna lose. Did you really think that Kaitlyn Bristow and Andy Richter were going to beat Di Rin? No, they were not going to beat di Rin. The judges loved di Rin. He’s got a chance. He’s gotta make the finals. I don’t think he’s gonna win, but he’s been somewhat, that they’ve absolutely loved this season.
I really think that we could see where the show was headed last night. We could see exactly what they were doing. It’s almost like we gotta make him get, so he was seven points behind the six place team. You know, that’s a lot of points in this. Latent in the game to get sevens and eights, and it was time.
You just watch him dance. It has nothing to do with his dancing because if you judged it strictly based on dancing, he would’ve been the second person out. Maybe third is how long he really should have lasted. You know, even when he’s doing the waltz and he’s doing a slow dance, he’s not on his toes. He is he’s just literally walking and taking steps.
And I, I know the judges aren’t gonna be harsh on someone like him who’s got no dance experience, but come on, he didn’t deserve to last seven weeks. And it’s a good story. I’m not saying it wasn’t, it just, it was time for him to go. I did find it interesting of all the former dancers that they brought back, a lot of ’em were in the audience, and maybe I missed them in the audience.
They clearly weren’t on the dance floor with so many former pro dancers from this show that were that were in some of the numbers. But Peta and Max weren’t there, were they? I might’ve missed it. Maybe they were in the audience and sitting there, but those are two people that were very, very prominent in the popularity of this show.
Surprise. Peta and Max were not there last night, as far as I saw. They certainly weren’t there as dancers and they weren’t performing in any of the numbers. But there were other people that were there, former dancers that never got on the dance floor last night that were just in the audience. Maybe Peta and Max just didn’t want to be shown, but, and maybe they’re upset at Max for what he said about Yawn.
I don’t know, but kind of weird that they weren’t there, you know? I understand that every former pro couldn’t be there, but Petera and Max still do a podcast talking about the show. It’s not like the second they left the show. They’ve just distanced themselves from it, quite the opposite. They have a podcast where they still talk about it, so not really sure why they weren’t there, or else I could be wrong, and they were in the audience and I just missed them.
When the crowd was pan, when the, when the camera was panning the crowd, Robert Irwin killed it again. I mean, guys, literally the nicest human being on the planet. I really don’t know who’s going to win. You know Robert on popularity, Whitney on dancing, but Dylan’s popular. I I, I guess it’s between Whitney and Robert, right?
That’s gotta be it. I just don’t know where the audience is leaning and who has the bigger following. I gotta believe probably Whitney does, but has nothing to do with dancing. She’s a better dancer than Robert, but Robert is just the life of the party every episode. And everybody loves him. I gotta believe there’s certain people that just don’t like Whitney because she’s on that show.
No other reason. I mean, I don’t know how you could watch Robert Irwin on your screen and be like, I don’t like that guy. Like what? He’s, he’s the greatest human ever. But I guess we’ll see. It was so awesome seeing Tom Berger on back on the dance floor. Honestly I just, as a guy who’s watched it from the beginning.
And always thought he was one of the best reality TV hosts out there. Such a professional. I thought it was awesome seeing him out there. The other thing that he said that I thought was interesting during one of his judging critiques, he looked at the camera and he said, this is for the network executives.
Bring back the results show. Remember, the show used to air two nights a week. The dancing was on Mondays and then or whatever day of the week it was. Sometimes it was, yeah, it was always Monday, right. The dancing was on Monday nights, and then it would give everybody on the East Coast central time zone, mountain time zone, Pacific time zone, a chance to vote, and then the next night was the results show with a bunch of other performances.
Usually a musical guest. I don’t think it’s ever gonna go back to that, but it was interesting to see Tom Bergeron suggest it. I don’t think they go back to a two hour show Monday night and a one hour show Tuesday, but I don’t know, with this new popularity of the show and this resurgence of the show and the most votes ever in the history of the show, they set records every week.
Maybe a B, C is like, this has now become one of our popular shows. Again, maybe we do need to give it more air time. You just do your regular two hour show on Monday night, and then Tuesdays is a bunch of performances you bring out. Former pros, former winners of the show, former dancers from the show, and a musical guest.
I wouldn’t be against it, but that’s just a lot of production. That’s three hours of dancing production a week. That would, that’s a lot of work. And you’re asking the dancers to do a lot more. So I just don’t know what the budget is on this show, if they could pull it off, but. I really did think, wow, Tom’s suggesting that almost made it seem like he might know something and he was just planting the seed for it.
I guess we’ll see next season. And finally, I want to end with this. I got another back to the future email. I from one you listeners and I wanna share it because again, anytime I hear something like this just makes me happy. ’cause I feel like what I’ve done for the last two weeks wasn’t all for Naugh. So this person emails in and says, Steve, longtime reader and fan since 2009.
I’m loving your back to the future references in the podcast and the stories that people have been submitting. Here’s another one. Your movie references inspired me to have a family movie night last Friday and introduce my two sons ages 10 and six to back to the future one. My older son had seen it with us several years ago, probably when he was about three or four, but had forgotten everything about it except remembering he liked it.
Anyway, I told the kids we were having a movie night but didn’t tell them which movie. I gave them a clue to see if they could figure it out. I told them that the movie was released the same week I was born, July of 85, and that they should ask around at school about famous 1985 movies and see if any of their teachers could figure it out.
Teachers didn’t know that afternoon, we played the Hangman game to figure out the title, and my 10-year-old finally solved the mystery. His eyes lit up at the vague memory of the movie title, so we watched it and both kids loved it. There were so many moments with literal eyes bulging jaws hanging as they figured out the time travel thing.
Multiple moments pausing to pausing the movie to discuss the movie finished right at bedtime and without hesitation. The kids asked, can we watch the next one? To which I answered as any responsible parent would. Of course, part two was equally enjoyable and my kids finally made it to bed well past 10:00 PM Of course, we finished the trilogy that same weekend and on Sunday the only complaint my kids expressed was, awe, why wasn’t there a fourth?
So, thanks Steve, for bringing another family together for an enjoyable weekend. Honestly, I could listen to these stories all day long. The more people that get turned on to this movie either. Saw it in the eighties, haven’t seen it since, or are watching it for the first time now. I, I love hearing it and we’re gonna talk more about it next week on the Thursday podcast with Brad Gilmore who wrote the book, why We Love Back to the Future.
I hope some of you purchase it. I started reading it. It’s great. It’s a trip down nostalgia lane for back to the future nerds like me. But just hearing that and you know, one thing I want to point out to her. I like the fact that they were pausing the movie to discuss because for a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old, the idea of time travel, because you have to think as Doc says in the third movie, you have to think fourth dimensionally when you’re talking about this movie, about events happening because it’s not real.
It can’t happen. This doesn’t happen in everyday life. It doesn’t happen in any day life. And number two, I’ll be the first to admit number two is very confusing. If you’re not paying attention and realizing, wait, what am I watching? What year are they in? What year did they just come from? Where are they going?
Why is he rewatching himself in 1980, in 1955? Like that is stuff that, I mean, I saw back to the future too, when it came out in 1989. I was 14 years old. I’m pretty sure when I walked outta that theater, I did not have everything memorized in terms of, oh, I totally got everything in that movie because I’ve picked up stuff over the years and back to the future too, where I was like, oh, okay, now it makes sense.
And back to the future too. There’s no way around it. It’s confusing because you have to almost pause it and think, okay, where are we at? Because this movie starts in 1985 and the first movie’s all about going back to 1955, and then the second one starts and they traveled to 2015, but when they come back to 1985, it’s an alternate 1985 because of what happened back in 1955, when the 2015 Biff went back to 1955 and changed history.
So now only Marty Dock and Jennifer come back to an alternate 1985 that everyone else is aware of, but they’re not because they are from a normal 1985. So then to change the alternate 1985, they gotta go back to 1955, which they were already at in the first movie. So just verbally me explaining that, if you’ve never seen either Ruby, you’d be like, whoa, that’s a little too much.
You gotta watch it. It plays out perfectly. Everything fits, everything makes sense. But it’s certainly not Oh, totally understood that the first time. So I’m glad that they paused the movie and discussed it. I’m curious if the 10-year-old and the 6-year-old really understood back to the future part two, like totally got.
All the times, the alternate 19. Why was it alternate? Why was it alternated in 1985? Why was there an alternate 85 when Doc and Marty came back from 2015? Did they understand that? Did they understand why they had to go back to 1955 to change the current 1985 or the alternate 1985, back to the normal 1985?
Like there’s a lot there. And I mean, obviously I can’t put my back myself back in 1989 of when I saw it. I just know over the years I’ve noticed more things and understood more things, so I certainly didn’t have everything understood when I walked outta that theater in 1989. I just remember it just being awesome, and I remember seeing the preview for the third one and not knowing at the time that they filmed two and three back to back, because that’s literally one of the first times you’ve ever seen a movie back then where you were already seeing a preview for the next movie at the end of the one you’re currently watching.
It just didn’t happen. So, yeah, again, could talk about this forever. The Patreon is coming. We’re gonna do a back to the Future rewatch and probably do a back to the future two rewatch. We might do ’em back to back. I don’t know. It’s very possible we do ’em back to back just ’cause it’s easier. I don’t know if I’m ever gonna get around to doing a rewatch of three, and it’s not because I don’t like three.
I do. I think it’s a good ending to the trilogy. I just think it’s a tad slower, but I love the beats that it has in it. ’cause it keeps up with the beats of one and two, whether there’s a chase scene, Marty waking up thinking he’s had a bad dream. Like those beats I think are perfect. And it again, it all fits in and makes sense as to how are we gonna get the DeLorean to work.
And the first one, the DeLoreans in 1955, he is like, Hey. I need plutonium. He’s like, we don’t have plutonium in 1955. And then in the second one, they don’t have any issues with the DeLorean, but in the third one they do, because in the third one, the DeLorean has no gas in it. And there was no gas in 1885, there was no gas station.
So it’s like, wait a second, how are we gonna get the car to run? And they had to come up with a creative way to get the car to run. So again, best trilogy ever. No one can tell me otherwise. Yes, it’s better than the Godfather. So, anybody else? Send me back to the future stories. Trust me, I, I, I, I’ll never get sick of reading these because it really makes me think that, and, and, and I know that the last two weeks have not all been for Naugh.
Which I was worried about and I was worried people were tuning out and I’m sure there are people that have tuned out when they’ve said, when they’ve heard me say, all right, talking about back to the future, here’s your back to the future fun fact of the day. I’m sure there are those that have tuned out at that point, but if you listen to the first, you know, 15 or 17 minutes of the podcast, I’m fine with that.
But there was a part of me that’s like I, I’m talking about something that I love and it’s not necessarily something that everybody else loves, but the response has been so positive. I’m saying there’s some of you that probably have tuned me out if you have. Nobody has messaged me and told me that, and maybe they just don’t want to ’cause they don’t want to piss on my Cheerios.
But you know what I’m saying? I, I love the stories hearing that people who have never watched it are watching it for the first time. People are turning their kids onto it. People are saying, I saw it back in the day. Don’t really remember it, but rewatching it. It was great. Love hearing ’em. Keep ’em coming.
