-The group date was bowling. And I found this fascinating because it basically mirrored the bowling group date on Arie’s season. Before the match started, the girls were told the winning team would get extra time with the lead, and the losing team would go home. And we all remember what happened on Arie’s season when Krystal’s team won but then he changed his mind and let the losing team join the after party. She lost her marbles. Did you notice the difference this season? The winning team didn’t even seem to care. The one they focused on the most was Chelsea. Here she was, frustrated not getting time with Matt already, all set to finally get that time, then all the sudden he invites the losing team to the after party, and yet Chelsea didn’t pout, didn’t call anyone names, didn’t even cry. Just kept smiling and laughed it off. Imagine that? That was a sight for sore eyes this season.
-Is it just me or are these dates being pushed through rather quickly this season? There were 9 women on this date. The only ones we saw him interact with at the after party, even AFTER the 5 girls from the losing team arrived, were Michelle and Serena P, who he both made out with. He ends up giving the rose to Michelle, much to Chelsea’s disappointment. Nine women and we see him talk with two. And even those convos were very short, and ended with kissing. And not surprising that the two they showed are both women that finished in the final four, so there was a reason for that. But man, I don’t know what it is, but I feel like most dates on this show are being rushed through. Like outside of Bri’s and Abigail’s 1-on-1 date, I don’t really remember too many conversations with any depth either. Maybe we got spoiled last season since every guy had a tragic story to tell Tayshia, so this season’s basic ass conversations seem “boring.” I’m not sure what it is, but something is off. Or it could just be that Matt’s a robot that doesn’t emit much emotion.
-Time for Katie’s 1-on-1! Man, this will be so great for her. Finally she gets her time with Matt that she’s wanted all season long, can finally start developing that deeper connection and really exploring…oh wait, gotta shoe horn Tyler Cameron into this season. I forgot. Sorry Katie. You get stuck on the back burner while Matt gets to awkwardly hug his boy for a lot longer than he needed to upon arrival and then the whole day portion of your date revolves around Tyler. Tyler, Tyler, Tyler. I didn’t watch him on GMA this morning, but let me guess? He said nothing interesting whatsoever. Compare Katie’s 1-on-1 to, oh I don’t know, any other 1-on-1 this season and it’s safe to say she got the short end of the stick. Their date was about Tyler and Matt’s bromance. Nothing more, nothing less.
-Something to keep in mind is that any 1-on-1 date that happens where the contestant gets sent home on the date, that’s already been established before the date happens. Matt was probably asked at some point, “Ok, who do you not see yourself with in the long run,” he told them Katie, and then they plan a 1-on-1 knowing she’ll go home. And that date was a perfect example. Nothing romantic whatsoever about it, it fit more into a Friend Zone date, then at dinner, these two sit down and I don’t think anyone watching thought we were seeing any sort of love story between these two. They were buddies, he thought she was cool, she’s brought entertainment to the show, but in no way I doubt did anyone look at these two and think they’d be together forever. Not even close. So, it’s not like Katie even has this giant sob story heading into “Bachelorette.” She’s just someone that got a great edit from the season, a lot of people like, and I can see why they want her. Sure, just like anyone who’s ever been named the lead in the history of the show, of course some people don’t like the choice. I wouldn’t say she’s gotten much different of a response in what I was emailed than any previous ones. Nothing that really sticks out. Had a ton of emails saying they love this choice, and had some that were questioning it, didn’t understand it, or flat out didn’t like it.
Same ol’, same ol’.
-The cocktail party begins and this was mainly about Heather’s arrival. The funniest part was as Heather walks through the revolving door (not knowing whether to push or pull first), and all the other girls are looking at her, exactly zero of them even know who she is. Yes, a little later on someone says, “She’s from Colton’s season,” but I’m willing to be everything I own that a producer told them that. Because still no one ever said her name. Even when she interrupted Pieper’s talk with Matt which, if we’re being fair, Pieper already had a rose for the week. She shouldn’t have been THAT upset her time got interrupted. But anyway, even when Pieper came back to talk to the girls and was like “WTF?” it’s not like she said, “Heather came an interrupted me.” Look, I get that she’s Hannah Brown’s BFF and now Hannah’s getting all butt hurt on IG last night for the girls ganging up on “her Heather,” but I’m sorry. Both of you should’ve realized this was a horrible idea to begin with and should’ve seen this result coming. Sorry not sorry.
Next week, more lunacy happens, Heather gets sent home along with 2 or 3 others, and we are getting down to the nitty gritty. I want to reiterate and encourage as many of you as possible to watch tonight’s IG Live at 8ET/5PT. I feel Ashley and I have spent 4 days going over what we want to say, we’ve made notes of the topics we want to hit, and we really would like to educate people on why what’s happening on social media this season is unacceptable. We already know there will be people that hate it. That’s fine. But just that alone tells us all we need to know. See you tonight.
